UUCSW Weekly Update
October 10, 2019
Sunday Service:
Common Sense is Neither Common or Sense
October 13 at 10:30 am
How often have you said — “it’s just common sense”? Well, what used to be common sense has changed through the ages. From the world being the center of the universe to the universe being made up of mysterious stuff we cannot see. Andy Koenigsberg will explore some observations of how the world is not as we perceive it to be.
This Week in Religious Education
Join us this week for Religious Education classes! We will begin in the Sanctuary with the congregation at 10:30 for the opening and Time for All Ages, then our youth will proceed to class with their teachers. Parents, please note that RE time goes until 11:45 when we would like to have you pick up your children from their classes downstairs so you can take home any artwork and speak with the DRE/teacher if needed.
Calling all Teachers! We want YOU to join the Religious Education Program for the 2019-2020 program year! There is still time and availability to volunteer! Not sure what you can offer? Feel free to talk to the DRE Cassie!
Food Drive: Once again we are going to be collecting food during the month of October for the Westborough Food Pantry! Items they have requested include: instant oatmeal, ramen, fruit cocktail, brownie mix, beef stew, pasta sauce, and tomato products. Of course any shelf-stable food that you can donate would be greatly appreciated! Things for children to pack in their lunches, sugar free items, and Thanksgiving favorites would always be a good choice too!
Happiness as a Spiritual Practice
We are starting a daytime Adult Religious Education program called “Happiness as a Spiritual Practice.” All UUCSW members and friends are invited to participate. The initial introductory and planning meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 11:00 am. What does the research say about happiness and how to attain it? How can we use this information to inform how can we share in discussions and activities that will increase our enjoyment, meaningfulness, and the creative process to enhance our lives and our connections? Meetings will be held in the Chapel on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm. Andrea Burdick, a retired therapist, will provide materials to get started and the group can then come to a consensus about how to best meet its needs.

Getting to Know UUCSW
If you are new to UUCSW and have questions about being a Unitarian Universalist or about UUCSW, please join us for an informal Q&A Information Session with Reverend Laurel and several members of the congregation.  We will meet on Sunday, October 20th following coffee hour, around 11:45, in the Parlor.
UU Knits Date Change
We are moving our October 21st meeting to October 28th to enable our Westborough participants to attend the Westborough Town Meeting. Please join us on October 28th at 6:30 pm.
Climate Vote for Westborough, October 21, 2019
Westborough UUs have an opportunity to affirm our seventh principle at the Fall Town Meeting on Monday October 21. A YES vote on the Climate Action Resolution will initiate the development of a comprehensive climate action plan for our town and enable Westborough to move toward using 100% renewable energy. This is an opportunity to live your values and take pride in safeguarding future generations by reducing the impacts of climate change.

Come, listen, discuss and vote on Article 11 on Monday, October 21st at 7:00 pm at the Westborough High School. Bring your friends and neighbors too! Questions? Contact John Metzger at jkmetzger2@gmail.com.
