Sunday Service

"A Beautiful Life"
led by Rev. Laurel Gray

It takes courage to live creatively, however that takes shape for you. Today we’ll reflect on what it means to live a beautiful life, to nurture our own capacity to create, and live with a sense of purpose. We’ll feature original music by Kala Farnham, our Music Director, and stories about creative living.

This service will be held in our sanctuary and on Zoom.

Potential Book Project:
Rev. Laurel & the Making of a Millennial Minister
Rev. Laurel and I will be available to answer questions about my potential new book project – about her ministerial journey and our church – on Sunday, May 1 after the service.

What is this project?

I would like to shadow Rev. Laurel during the 2022-2023 church year, attending meetings and Sunday services. I’d chronicle what will be Rev. Laurel’s first full, in-person year as our minister.
My vision is that in the book, Rev. Laurel will serve as a proxy for all ministers of her generation. It would address questions such as, why did she become a minister? How does she deal with the myriad issues facing us today? More broadly, I’d like to look at how American houses of worship – with overall declining memberships – survive?

I’m using my 2017 book, Mr. Clark’s Big Band: A Year of Laughter, Tears and Jazz in a Middle School Band Room as my model. For that project, I shadowed a Southborough music director and his jazz band for a year in order to tell the story of how a charismatic teacher took his students under his wing after the sudden loss of a fellow band member.

Rev. Laurel has enthusiastically embraced this project and the Board of Trustees seems amenable, but everyone really wants to hear from YOU, the members of this congregation. I look forward to answering your questions on May 1.

Announcement from the
UU Service Committee
With millions of Ukrainians displaced by the Russian invasion, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC), is assisting refugees by partnering with two grassroots organizations in Eastern Europe, the Hungarian Helsinki Committee and FemFund.
Both organizations are well-positioned to respond immediately to the people fleeing Ukraine for Hungary and Poland, respectively, having engaged in this work for years with people fleeing conflicts in the Middle East and Africa.

Hungarian Helsinki Committee focuses on providing plain-language legal advice to asylum-seekers and civil society organizations, as well as combatting racist and xenophobic narratives about people on the move in Hungary. FemFund partners with community groups assisting women, LGBTQI+, and Black and People of Color seeking safety in Poland.

Or, you can pledge online in Realm here: AddPledge

Or, you can fill out and mail the pledge card found in the letter we sent you (and available at church)
