Weekly Update - March 12, 2020
Please note: The UUCSW Board of Trustees is meeting tonight, March 12th, to discuss our congregation's response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We are not aware of any confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 in our community at this time. However, it may become appropriate to alter some of our activities in the interest of public health. We will provide a further update via email, social media, and at uucsw.org on Friday, March 13th.
Sunday Service: "The Wisdom of Trees"
March 15th at 10:30 am
Native traditions have long taught that the natural world is alive with its own wisdom, but scientists rejected this idea. Recently, however, science has begun to agree, citing evidence that trees can in fact communicate and cooperate. In this service, we’ll focus on the wisdom to be found in the lives of trees. Led by Rev. Laurel Gray.

Social Justice Discussion April 24th
at Kim Hall’s House, 19 Wayside Road, Westborough
The idea for this discussion came out of a church service in the fall on bailing people out of prison; and how the number of Black and Hispanic people who are incarcerated is greatly over-represented compared to the population at large.

The title is “White Fragility” by Robin DiAngelo. The book “everyone is talking about” from Beacon Press. In a nutshell, DiAngelo coined the term "white fragility"; it is a reaction in which white people feel attacked or offended when the topic of racism arises. The book discusses many different aspects and manifestations of white fragility. Here are two great reviews: newyorker.com, slate.com

Kindness Week is March 29th-April 4th
Kindness Week 2020 is a celebration of the kindness in our community. It is a time to shine a spotlight on the good and encourage people to spread kindness through their own actions and notice positive things/people around Westborough. In partnership with other Westborough organizations and businesses, we seek to create events and initiatives throughout the week that will promote community bonding around kindness and have a lasting impact. This aligns with the Westborough Connects mission of building a more connected and kind community where everyone feels like they belong. For more information, visit westboroughconnects.org.
Share the Plate Volunteers Needed!
UUCSW is seeking volunteers to serve on our new Share the Plate Review Board! The Review Board will review nominations and make recommendations for which organizations UUCSW will support through this program in the coming church year. This volunteer commitment will require meeting only 2-3 times per year. High school-aged youth are especially encouraged to participate! To volunteer, please send an email indicating your interest to office@uucsw.org. Speak with any member of the Board of Trustees if you have questions. Thank you!
