2024-2025 Pledge Campaign

The 2024-2025 UUCSW Pledge Campaign - Growing and Sharing Together – is off to a great start! We are already at more than 1/3 of our goal!

You can see our pledge brochure here to learn more about our pledge campaign theme and  goals. To help you rightsize your pledge, we’ve created a pledge Giving Guide which offers tools for looking at your particular circumstances and helping you to pledge accordingly. If you should choose to increase your pledge, once again all pledge increases will be matched dollar for dollar

We had a great Celebration Sunday service on March 10. You can hear Rev. Laurel’s sermon here and see Bruce Hall (head of the pledge committee) kick off the service with a short video here.

If you’ve already pledged, thanks so much!  If not, you can pledge in Realm (go to the giving link in the left column), fill out a pledge form found in the sanctuary and hand it in, or email Bruce Hall at bruce300@gmail.com. If you’d like to discuss your specific pledge, please call Bruce at 650-380-4675. You can also discuss our pledge campaign with anyone on the pledge committee, or any member of the Board of Trustees.

Sincerely,

UUCSW Pledge Committee

Bruce Hall (Chair), Rev. Laurel Gray, Pete Allen, Kim Hall, David King, Kathie Metzger, Ellen Rutter, and Nancy Siegal.

Welcome Blanket Project

Join us in welcoming refugees to the US by helping to collectively craft a blanket to donate to the Welcome Blanket project.

The Racial Justice Committee invites those who knit or crochet, whether novice or expert, to join us in creating a joint gift of welcome from UUCSW. Imagine 16 knitted or crocheted, 10”x10” squares from individual members and friends sewn together as one warm, melting-pot welcome! Deadline for completed squares is April 14, 2024. Jane Walsh is coordinating, offers this Q&A sheet and will be available after service on March 17 and 24 to answer questions. She can also be reached at janenboro@aol.com or 508-393-9206 (please leave a message).

SMOC Food and Clothing Drives

This month's SMOC food and clothing collections will be delivered on Friday March 29th to the Worcester Shelter. Donations may be made on Sundays in church, or on Thursday afternoon, March 28th, at the Ruggles Street door, between 4:30 and 5:45. Bologna may be stored in the upstairs parlor refrigerator.

SMOC food and clothing donations may now be dropped off in the box in the Sanctuary every Sunday. Bologna can be stored in the upstairs refrigerator in the parlor. If you need alternate arrangements for drop-off, please contact Pauline Sciarappa at psciarappa@gmail.com

Book Group

Our next book group meeting will be Fri, April 12 at 7pm at Central One Bank, 40 South Street, Westborough. The book this month is Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, by Gabrielle Zevin

Summary: In this exhilarating novel, two friends—often in love, but never lovers—come together as creative partners in the world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality.

All are welcome!

UUA and Community News

Get ready for UU the Vote 2024! Tonight: Thursday, March 14 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET, join UU leaders and partners to learn how you can show up for our values and communities in the critical 2024 elections. Invite your congregation and social justice teams to join us for an exciting launch of UU the Vote 2024.

When we organize, we build power in our communities for justice, accountability, and healing. In the last four years, UU the Vote has built new networks of spiritual and political communities to #VoteLove and #DefeatHate. With UU the Vote 2024, we’ll be showing up to combat criminalization; protect and expand healthcare, including abortion; and deepening local democratic practices, from participatory budgeting to ranked choice voting.

We are fighting for so much in 2024. Together, our communities can address the current threats to our democracy and human dignity. Join us in this fight on Thursday, March 14 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET for the launch of UU the Vote 2024!

Please mark your March calendars for a virtual screening of PRECONCEIVED, a powerful new documentary about 'crisis pregnancy centers' - the ground game of the anti-abortion movement - and Zoom discussion with the filmmakers, experts featured in the film, and activists working to stop these groups from undermining our reproductive health and rights in Massachusetts!

Register now and get your exclusive link to watch the film from March 18 - 25 and join a virtual forum with the filmmakers and experts featured in the documentary on March 24th.

World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness that 2.2 billion people live without access to safe water. We are honored to welcome Rev. Dr. Clyde Grubbs and Rev. Karen Van Fossan into a conversation on this important and sacred day. They are defenders and protectors of water; two spiritual leaders in our UU movement who will help us build a heart-centered approach to a right relationship with Mother Earth and her waters.
