"Autumn Harvest Musings"

led by Sharon Barrett and Pauline Sciarappa

Autumn, with its brilliant colors, spicy aromas, and chilly air stirs up nostalgic memories for many of us. We will pause to remember what harvest meant to our ancestors and ponder what it means to us today. We will also dust off the microphone and invite members of the congregation to share stories and reflect on this magical time of year. Please join us!

We Need Your Smiling Face at Our Doors

Please help UUCSW to be more welcoming by greeting on Sunday mornings. We need two greeters each week, one at each door. What does the job entail? Welcoming guests, making sure they know that masks are encouraged, especially if they are going to be singing. For visitors, offer a nametag, ask a bit about them and if they have any questions. Try to take a few moments after the service to get to know them. Ask if they would like to fill out a blue card so we have their contact information.

You are also responsible for collecting the offertory during the service. The collection goes to Susie Wells who is usually sitting in the back of the sanctuary. After doing the collection, take a quick headcount of people in the sanctuary and fill in the sheet at the back of the sanctuary.

Please sign up using this sign-up genius link: Greeter SignUp Genius Link

Our next beverages-only coffee hour will be Sunday, October 30th.

ACTION REQUESTED:

Risk Tolerance Survey Link

In last week's service, we discussed the UU legacy of taking risks in the name of social justice work.

We need to understand our congregation's attitudes towards risk so we can meet the moment together.

Please fill out the anonymous

We will share the results in a future service.

National Mid-term Elections are less than two months away!

About a dozen people from our UUCSW community have already written to over 700 underrepresented voters encouraging them to vote in November. Thank you to all who have helped us move closer to our goal of reaching out to 1,000 voters.

As VoteForward.org has shown, letter writing is an easy and effective way of

getting voters to show up at the polls. Learn more and how to join us HERE

Or you can contact Jane or Marge at [email protected] to have letters sent to you by email to complete at your own pace.

Letters will be mailed at the end of October, so there’s still time for you to make a difference. We look forward to hearing from you!

The Michael Servetus/InterNational Conference Against Racism

October 28 - October 30, 2022

This conference will be a hybrid event, based on a professional Zoom system, in honor of one of our martyrs, Michael Servetus, whose idea of recreating a form of Christianity to include Jews and Muslims, is an archetype of what we mean by multiracial unitarian universalism. It is being sponsored by the Religious Professional Task Force of the Unitarian Universalist Multiracial Unity Action Council—UUMUAC. Our theme is the vital role which Multiracial Unitarian Universalism, as an embodiment of the Seven Principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations, especially the Fourth Principle, can play in the struggle against racism in all its forms from Afghanistan to Zambia. The Hilton Geneva Hotel and Conference Center, Geneva, Switzerland, will be the site for our key activities, and the times for the hybrid activities will be 10 am – 4 pm, Eastern Time

Visit www.uumuac.org/international for more details.

The cost of registration, whether in-person or via Zoom, is $150. Registration will remain open until Thursday, October 27, 2022, Noon Central Time (7 p.m. Geneva Time). To register, complete the Contact page at www.uumuac.org, then use the Donate button to pay the registration cost; or send your contact information along with your registration payment to UUMUAC, 1448 E. 52nd St., Box 267, Chicago,,IL 60615.
