Dear Siblings in Christ,
Many of our colleagues (pastors, deacons, musicians) have lamented their decision at this time to not hold Holy Week and Easter services in their church buildings. For Pastor Potter and me, this was never something we debated. We care too much for our community to ask you all to choose between gathering for services and risking exposure to the virus.
We will do the best that we can to observe Holy Week and Easter Sunday through Facebook Live (as we have been doing) and, when we are able to return to the church building, we will celebrate a festive re-gathering with Holy Communion and a special "Easter" feel. Remember, the disciples spent the first Easter behind locked doors, too.
- In preparation for Palm Sunday, you are invited to pick up palms in "drive-through" fashion from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, in front of the Church steps. Just drive up and Pastor Potter, a few other friendly faces, and I will be there to greet you from a distance.
- Thank you to those who have been so supportive of our Facebook Live worship services. For the last three weeks, we have had as many as 272 views (per week) and reached as many as 216 people (weekly) just on Facebook...and the numbers are growing! People from as close as our neighborhood and as far away as Houston, Texas and Finland (yes!) are able to see what it means to "be the people of Zion"!
Watch your e-mail, Facebook, and the website for our complete Holy Week schedule when it is finalized.
Stay safe, stay connected, and wash your hands again (and again)!
On the Way to Jerusalem with You,
Cantor Kurt R. Schmidt
