Prince of Peace
Weekly Update

July 23-29, 2021

"Life is fleeting. And if you're ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky, when the stars are strung across the velvety night, and when a shooting star streaks through the blackness turning night into day... make a wish, think of me. And make your life spectacular. I know I did."

- Robin Williams as Jack Powell,
from the movie "Jack"

There is an opportunity for you to be a part of the Welcome Team (greeter, temperature taker, attendance taker, help with seating, lector, etc,) at the 9:00 a.m. indoor service and the Welcome Team (set-up manager, greeter, bulletin distributor, offering collector, parking assistant, lector, etc.) at the 11:00 a.m. outdoor worship.

Please prayerfully consider how you can be a part of these two essential Welcome Teams. For more information and an opportunity to serve, contact Pastor Lutz today.
CREATING COMMUNITY

Creating Community is an email devotion to guide your preparation for worship for the following weekend.

Imagine how much more clear and relevant God's Word will be if you have had an opportunity to read, reflect, and dwell in the Word prior to worship. You may do this devotion as an individual, with others, as a family, or over Zoom as a small group.

Each devotion arrives on Monday and can be engaged in anytime before Sunday's worship.

The devotion includes three simple steps:

1. Read through the text (provided)

2. Respond to the questions (select one of the sets of questions from the three possibilities )

3. Offer a Prayer (one is provided)

 Craft Fair

We have decided to do the Craft Fair this Fall. Please start making crafts and contact Marci Sharp or myself for ideas that sell. We will be collecting the following for sale:

  • Books
  • Gently used costume jewelry
  • Gently used holiday decorations and supplies

We will be asking for volunteers to staff the kitchen and various tables. The Bake Sale is always a draw to get people in. Susi Lehmann will be in charge of the kitchen for making sandwiches and collecting soups and stews. Storage for general things is not available at church. A box for collecting small items will be available in the Narthex by September.

CALUMET
WALK THE WALK 2021

There is still time to register!
So far 1,634 people and dogs are participating!

The goal: 1,500 registrants, trekking 200,000 miles over 62 days to raise $106,250 or more for Calumet. There is still time to register! Each registrant receives an official “Walk the Walk 2021” T-Shirt.
If 1,500 sign up to participate, Calumet will receives $37,500 in matching funds they won’t otherwise receive.
Each participant (including dogs) joins a Team and Jim and I decided this would be a great thing for POP to join in so we will be the Team leaders. You can walk, run, bicycle, or swim. Four times during the 62 day event, participants will report their mileage to us and we will report to Calumet.
Registration fee is $25 which goes to Calumet. If the participants…together…reach the 200,000 mile goal, Calumet will receive thousands of dollars in pledged money from Angel Donors they otherwise wouldn’t receive.
The link to register is below.
Please let us know if you are joining our Team.

Social Ministry

Mary Weisensee is now bringing food to Daily Bread in Danbury. Donations have been good most weeks but we can always use more. Remember that monetary donations buy more for the pantry as food is sold on wholesale costs. You can donate on the website.
There is always a need for volunteers on donation days, Tuesday and Friday. Prince of Peace had regular volunteers in the past and the hope is that we will continue to support the pantry. Thank you, Mary and all the donors who give of themselves so that families can eat and children can grow.

We have significant interest in a new world charity. It’s called “Dress a Girl Around the World”. We will start to make simple dresses for girls from infant to size 18. Girls need to be dressed to go to school in all countries. One pattern that looks interesting is a “tee shirt dress”. It utilizes children’s tee shirts to form the top or bodice. A skirt is attached.
Please save gently used plain tee shirts if you have them. Please, no graphics or print on the shirts. Another pattern is a rectangle which falls from the shoulders. It’s finished with bias tape so look through your supplies for tape. Fortunately, we have some fabric and elastics and trims so we should be able to make them without much monetary outlay. There is some interest in meeting at church for a workshop to get us going. Stay tuned. Men are welcome! You don’t have to be an expert sewer. Willingness to help is all that’s needed.

It was suggested that we establish a list of people who are willing to drive members to appointments. Please call me until we get permission from other drivers to publish a list.

Please call the office or Pastor if you have a chronic health problem or hospitalization. We want to help but we also respect your privacy.

We are good about taking care of ourselves, our community and away from CT.

FLOWERS AT THE ALTAR

Most Sundays during the year, we have a beautiful bouquet of flowers at the altar that was created by the members of Altar Guild. Those flowers are dedicated and paid for by members of the congregation.
The arrangements cost $25.00.  If you would like to dedicate altar flowers in memory of a loved one, to the glory of God, or in honor of a person or event, you can sign up for your chosen date on the Flower Chart between the bathrooms in the Narthex. You also need to fill out a flower request form, which is located next to the Flower Chart, and put it in Rene Tuccillo’s mailbox. Your name and dedication will appear in the worship bulletins.  If two people sign up for the same date, flowers can be placed in other locations in the Sanctuary, such as on the organ or  piano or at the baptismal font.  We do not have flowers at the altar during lent.
