My Statement on the 32nd Anniversary
of the Tiananmen Square Massacre
32 years ago, the world watched in horror as the Chinese Communist Party arrested and slaughtered an unknown number of their own people as they protested for democracy and basic human rights in Tiananmen Square. The United States and our allies pledged to never forget the savagery of the Chinese Communist government’s attack that day, so we must not turn a blind eye to their continued genocide against their own minority Uyghur population and the ongoing repression in Hong Kong. As the beacon for democracy, equal rights, and freedom around the world, the United States must continue to hold the Chinese regime accountable and impose meaningful costs for their rampant human rights abuses and malign behavior, including their coverup of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Called for Unilateral Action
to Reopen the US-Canada Border
On Thursday, I sent a letter to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas uging the Department of Homeland Security to unilaterally ease restrictions for non-essential travel across the northern border if a bilateral reopening plan is not established before the restrictions expire on June 21, 2021. As Co-Chair of the Northern Border Caucus, I have worked with my colleagues across the aisle, our Canadian counterparts, the North Country Chamber of Commerce, and essentially anyone who will listen over the past several months to establish a bilateral, metrics-based plan to reopen the northern border, but the Canadian Government continues to lack the urgency this situation demands. Enough is enough – the United States needs to do what’s best for the American people and small businesses and reopen the northern border!

Following My Advocacy, USDA Reversed Decision to Change Cover Crop Standards for Farmers
Earlier this spring, I wrote a letter to the NRCS outlining the significant challenge the change would have presented for farmers who utilize cover crops as a tool to protect the soil and as a secondary feed source for animals. I am proud that the USDA has decided, following my advocacy, to halt changes to their cover crop standards and allow our farmers to maintain the same practices they have used for years. I have heard from farmers across my district who harvest cover crops as an important conservation tool and are concerned about increased overregulation at USDA. I will always stand up for them and support their efforts to be responsible stewards of the land.
County fairs are highly-anticipated annual events for our rural communities, youth, and families, helping to promote local small businesses, family farms, and agriculture. I am proud to support this bill to help our county fairs overcome the unfair and unprecedented financial challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and I look forward to attending our fairs this summer!

District Meetings and Events
Memorial Day Ceremonies
On Memorial Day, I attended ceremonies in both Glens Falls and Hartford to honor our fallen heroes. The North Country is so proud to be home to many Gold Star Families, veterans, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom. We are the land of the free because of the brave!
