Dear Friends,

It is my greatest honor to represent you in Congress. As always, my mission is to advocate for Upstate New York and the North Country’s priorities at the highest levels of government. Here is a look at my past week working for you in Congress.

My Work This Week for Upstate New York and the North Country

Condemning New York’s Concealed Carry Law as Unconstitutional

Kathy Hochul’s gun grabbing law is unconstitutional and a direct attack on our Upstate rights and values. This week, I introduced a resolution expressing to Congress that New York State’s Concealed Carry Improvement Act (CCIA) is unconstitutional. We know that Hochul passed this law declaring historical reenactors and lawful gun owners in the Adirondack Park felons in direct defiance of the United States Supreme Court after it struck down New York’s gun laws, but still she doubled down on her unconstitutional agenda. I am bringing the concerns of New York patriots to the highest levels, and, just as we did with the concealed carry law, I am committed to bringing this all the way to the Supreme Court.

Supporting Plattsburgh International Airport

I’m working to ensure Plattsburgh International Airport is equipped with the resources it needs to continue meeting the transportation needs of families in Upstate New York and the North Country and providing access for tourists visiting our region. I introduced the Border Airport Enhancement Act to provide the Plattsburgh International Airport with access to important services and also support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in its efforts to hire new agents.

Specifically, this bill will designate the Plattsburgh International Airport as a Port of Entry, so it no longer has to pay out of pocket for CBP services, such as security screenings, cargo security and examinations, and immigration inspections, which will save it roughly $600,000 per year. It will also provide support to streamline the hiring of new CBP agents by exempting prior law enforcement, military, or individuals with security clearances from a polygraph test. This requirement has negatively impacted dozens of constituents of New York’s 21st District who have applied to work for CBP.

I will continue pushing for results on behalf of our communities in New York’s 21st District.

Discussing House Republicans’ Plan to End Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Inflation is the number one issue impacting every American family.

I joined Larry Kudlow to discuss my commitment to working with House Republicans to create an economy that is strong. That means immediately stopping the trillions of dollars of reckless spending that has fueled this inflation crisis, bringing the budget back to balance, and putting an absolute stop to those reckless spending bills that have occurred under Nancy Pelosi’s leadership. I also proposed the REIN IN Inflation Act to hold President Biden accountable for his executive actions exacerbating inflation. I want every single executive order the president issues to have an Inflationary Impact Study public on behalf of the American people.

Announcing Over $12 Million for North Country Hospitals

I am proud to announce five hospitals in New York’s 21st District will receive $12,943,750 of Rural Development Grants from the Department of Agriculture. These taxpayer dollars will return to our district to support Adirondack Medical Center in Harrietstown, Carthage Area Hospital, River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg, and Gouverneur Hospital as they face unique challenges. The funding will be used to support our hospitals after lost revenues due to the coronavirus pandemic, help ease the physician shortage, and ensure these hospitals can continue to meet our district’s needs.

Blasting Biden’s Continued Attack on our Workers and Economy

This week, the Biden Department of Labor’s proposed rule on worker classification under the Fair Labor Standards Act that will significantly restrict opportunities for individuals to work as independent contractors. With this action, Joe Biden continues his assault on the American economy with his proposed rule that will upend the livelihoods of independent workers. This will force independent workers to become someone else’s employee, while creating more red tape and confusion for small businesses already struggling to survive in Biden’s economy. It is a clear reminder that Biden and Democrats are completely out of touch with the millions of Americans working as independent contractors, who overwhelmingly prefer the flexibility and increased earning opportunity from being their own boss. I am committed to continuing to protect the freedom for Americans to earn a living in the way that best suits their families’ needs.

Discussing the Commitment to America

I joined Trey Gowdy on Sunday Night in America to discuss House Republicans’ Commitment to America, which focuses on creating an economy that is strong, a nation that is safe, a future built on freedom, and a government that is accountable to the American people. When I travel around our district, I hear concerns from hardworking families about the historic inflation, gas prices, heating bills, and crime crisis caused by one-party Democrat rule in Washington and Albany. In the face of these crises, House Republicans have solutions.
