Deadline to Sign or Veto Bills Just Days Away

Monday is the deadline for the governor to sign or veto bills. Two priority bills our industry is opposed to have yet to be addressed, AB 98 and SB 1103.

AB 98 (Carrillo; D-Palmdale and Reyes; D-San Bernardino) would introduce restrictive mandates on warehouses. CBPA has played a key role in the massive opposition to this bill from the business community along with local government groups including the League of California Cities and California State Association of Counties, California Association for Local Economic Development, and hundreds of individual companies and local elected officials. You can view our veto request letter here and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce's letter to Governor Newsom here.

SB 1103 (Menjivar; D-Van Nuys) proposes burdensome commercial lease contract mandates. CBPA has led the opposition effort on these bills with over 80 organizations submitting veto letters.

AB 2364 (Rivas; D-Los Angeles), a flawed janitorial study bill, was signed into law by the governor this week. The bill poses serious threats by advocating a flawed approach to janitorial workloads, potentially leading to skyrocketing costs across the state.

Stay tuned for an update on bills yet to be signed or vetoed after the deadline passes next week.

CBPA in the News: Newsom signs bill requiring janitors to take $200 sexual harassment training

CBPA was featured in a recent article from The Center Square highlighting our industry's opposition to AB 2364 (Rivas; D-Los Angeles), a bill requiring companies that hire janitors to make sure janitors take sexual assault training every other year, pay $200 per participant for sessions with under 10 janitors present, and $80 for sessions with 10 or more janitors.

The bill was opposed by our industry as the collective bargaining process has already provided a robust, evidence-based framework for addressing workload issues. The bill passed the legislature and was recently signed by Governor Newsom.
