CBPA Holds Legislative Luncheon, Inaugural All-Star Awards and PAC Fundraiser Reception

On Wednesday, CBPA hosted its first board meeting of 2024, Legislative Luncheon, Inaugural All-Star Awards presentation, and a PAC Reception to raise funds for our industry during this critical election year.


It was an honor to present eight deserving individuals with our inaugural All-Star Awards. These leaders are committed to fostering collaboration to take on some of the biggest challenges impacting our state. CBPA All-Star Award recipients include Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig, LiUNA! of CA Executive Director Joseph Cruz, and Legislative All-Stars Senators Brian Dahle and Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, and Assemblymembers Jasmeet Bains, Diane Dixon, Stephanie Nguyen and James Ramos.


Wednesday's events concluded at Prelude Kitchen & Bar where we connected industry leaders with 15 legislators from across California. Thank you to everyone who attended for your continued support of our industry!

Bill Introduction Ends With 2,124 New Bills Introduced

Last week marked a significant deadline in the legislative process with the conclusion of the bill introduction deadline. CBPA has taken a proactive stance, identifying over 450 bills for close monitoring. This extensive list includes a notable number of spot bills, which are placeholder bills that may undergo substantial amendments as the legislative session progresses. CBPA is gearing up to collaborate extensively with various stakeholders and legislative offices. The aim is to engage in constructive dialogue and advocacy efforts to ensure that the interests of commercial real estate are well-represented and safeguarded as these bills move through the legislative process. Stay tuned as the spot bill deadline is March 11, 2024.

CBPA in the News: Retail Theft Outrage

CBPA President & CEO Matthew Hargrove was featured in the Los Angeles Daily News discussing retail theft and the unintended consequences of Proposition 47, a key issue for our industry.


Last week, business and law enforcement leaders including CBPA responded to newly introduced retail theft legislation, noting that while the effort is appreciated, more needs to be done.


The CBPA endorsed Homelessness, Drug Addiction, Retail Theft Reduction Act ballot measure which will effectively improve community safety by holding repeat theft and drug traffickers accountable continues to gain momentum with over 420,000 signatures collected by California voters. 

CBPA Connects With Partner Organizations

Event season is in full swing as CBPA President & CEO Matthew Hargrove travels the country to connect with partner organizations and advocate for our industry.


Last week, Hargrove represented NAIOP of California at NAIOP's 2024 Chapter Leadership & Legislative Retreat in Washington D.C. Yesterday, Hargrove connected with BOMA Inland Empire at their legislative luncheon (pictured here with BOMA California Treasurer Desiree Lavin Glover). Next month, Hargrove heads back to Washington D.C. for the ICSC Federal Fly-In.
