Government Affairs Update: Bill Requests Submitted

Last week marked the final opportunity to submit bill requests to the Office of Legislative Counsel, with February 21st set as the last day for bill introductions.

CBPA is actively considering sponsorship of six legislative proposals this session, including the reintroduction of last year's AB 2433 (Quirk-Silva; D-Fullerton), aimed at expediting plan checking and inspections, and AB 3196 (Nguyen; D-Elk Grove), which focused on demurrer hearings.

Other key proposals include legislation on fire safety standards for lithium batteries, business property cleanup relief, life cycle assessment training for code enforcement personnel, and enhancing photovoltaic and battery storage incentives and standards.

These legislative efforts not only address critical industry challenges but also help strengthen CBPA’s relationships with legislators, providing an opportunity to be proactive in shaping policy and lobbying in support of legislation that benefits commercial real estate across California.

Immigration Raids Target Office Buildings

Last week, reports surfaced from San Francisco detailing federal agents conducting what appeared to be an immigration sweep targeting janitors at multiple properties in Downtown SF.
