Advent Devotional Booklet

Copies of this year's Advent Devotional are now available in the Crocker Chapel and online at the Union Church Website HERE .
This beautiful booklet is made up of reflections, poetry, stories and images submitted by members of the Union Church community, and is meant to travel with you through the weeks of Advent - each week focusing on the themes of Hope, Peace, Joy and Love.  We hope you will pick up a copy, and find wisdom and inspiration for your Advent journey.

Children, Youth & Families

NEXT SUNDAY, December 10th:
Christmas Pageant!  (Rehearsal: Sat. Dec. 9th at 9:00 a.m.)
We will be led in worship next Sunday by our children and youth as they share the story of Christmas in our annual Christmas Pageant.  If your child or youth would like to participate, but wasn't with us for our first rehearsal on the 19 th , please let Pastor Amy know and we'll make sure they are included.  We will gather to rehearse in the sanctuary on Saturday, Dec 9 th at 9:00 a.m.

Exploring Our Faith/Confirmation:

For the next few weeks, I will be holding a drive
to collect clothes for Cra dles to Crayons, an  organization that collects clothing and other essentials for children in need in the greater Boston area. There are going to be two bins located in the church by the Reception Room and in the wing of the sanctuary (Crocker Chapel) that say Cradles to Crayons on them. If anybody has any new or gently used clothing that their kids have outgrown, C2C would greatly appreciate all donations. It is almost winter and the organization always needs winter coat donations, but any and all donations are appreciated.
Thank you,
Justin Pond

Mission Matters
Mitten Tree 2017!

Once again, we are supporting our friends from the Project Care & Concern and Waban Health communities. For many of the residents, these are the only Christmas presents they will receive.; A simple coffee mug, set of bed sheets, a warm robe or slippers will bring them such joy!; This is an opportunity for us to remind the residents that we are a part of their family in Christ.
This Sunday, please take a moment to choose a mitten from the UCW tree! Molly Owen-Kiritsy and our youth will be coordinating the Waban Health gifts (red mittens).  Vinita Leslie will be coordinating the Project Care & Concern gifts (green mittens).  Please be sure to let them know which gift you have chosen, so we can make sure that no one has been forgotten.
Wrapped gifts with their mitten tags need to be returned by
December 17th, 2017, so that we may make deliveries in time for Christmas!
As always, we appreciate your generosity!

UCW Relational Meeting Session
Originally scheduled for this Sunday is p
ostponed until next Sunday, Dec. 10
In November, dozens of UCW members participated in the first two sessions of our "relational meeting" campaign. Relational meetings are a GBIO practice that invites us to deepen our knowledge of each other, and strengthen our church community, through face-to- face, one-to- one conversations that get at our passions and root stories. The final session of the series was scheduled for today, but has been postponed until next Sunday, Dec. 10th.  You can sign up for the upcoming session on the UCW website at, or write your name on an index card and put it in the large envelope on the GBIO bulletin board in Crocker Chapel. Or you can just show up! All are welcome, including children and youth. See Kathleen Hobson (617-417- 0537) or Mark Smith (617-967- 4578) for more information.
Thanksgiving Gratitude
Thanks for Alicia Collins and Beth Sears (Co-Leaders) and all the volunteers who created our lovely Thanksgiving Community Dinner.
Thanksgiving Collection Update
Our Congregation generously gave to our Thanksgiving special collection benefiting Boston Warm. Over $900 was raised! We are invited to bring the proceeds of that offering to Boston Warm at Emmanuel Church, Newbury St. and see what they are doing for people who are unsheltered and cold. If you would like the opportunity to deliver the special collection, along with Nancy Zollers and others, please let her know. Thank you for your outreach to our partners who are Boston Warm.

Fellowship and Faith Formation
Open prayer space in Memorial Chapel.

Our lovely Memorial Chapel (to the right of the sanctuary when facing the altar) has been transformed into an open prayer space.  We have heard from many of you that you would welcome a quiet place to pray either before or after the service and as such have created a warm and welcome space.  Light a prayer candle, sit in silence, share your joys or concerns quietly with a friend.

Beginning this Sunday, Jay O'Beirne will be available in the chapel before the service for those who would like someone to pray with them or for them.  As letter from James in the New Testament instructs " Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord" ( James 5:14 (NRSV)), Jay will be happy to be present to anyone who would like.

Please note that the prayer book that in the past has resided at the back of the sanctuary has been moved to Memorial Chapel.  You are invited to enter that quiet space before the service to write down in the book any prayers that you would like lifted up during our time of prayer in the worship service.
