Ken Burns Event Lottery

Documentarian Ken Burns will visit Concord and Lexington on April 17 to discuss his new film, The American Revolution, timed to the start of the War of Independence on April 19, 1775.


Seating for these events is free but extremely limited and restricted by residency at the request of the filmmakers. As such, the Library is distributing tickets via a lottery system.


Concord residents only may use this form to enter to win (1) or (2) tickets to one of the two Ken Burns events on April 17. Winners will be selected randomly.

Adult Programs

Monthly Open Boardgaming for Adults

Saturday, March 15, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Goodwin Forum, Main Library

Come join a pickup board game or card game from the Library’s collection with Concord resident Matt Ryan - Each month Matt will borrow a fresh couple of games to have ready. You can also borrow what you want to play and recruit attendees into your game. This event is for adults who want everyone to have fun. No registration required. 

Shakespeare's Queens: a One-Woman Show with Poornima Kirby

Tuesday, March 18, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Join Poornima Kirby for her one-woman show, Shakespeare's Queens. Shakespeare grew up under the reign of Elizabeth I, a mercurial, intelligent, powerful queen. And her influence is written across many of Shakespeare’s finest female characters. Created and performed by Shakespearean actress, Poornima Kirby, this jewel of a play dances between Elizabeth’s story, and Shakespeare’s own life as a writer and father to two strong-minded daughters. Ancient Wisdom Today: Practice and Principles

Tuesday, March 18, 7:15 - 8:00 p.m.

Zoom

How might our modern ways benefit from ancient wisdom practices based on compassion and interconnection? Join us to discuss short readings from the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tsu as well as aspects of Buddhist, Indigenous and Zen teachings, among others. This 10-week online offering, which began on January 21, runs on consecutive Tuesday nights until March 25. Seed Packing Party at Fowler for All Ages

Join us at Fowler to restock our Concord Seed Lending Library for its 11th year. We will package a variety of seeds, some saved from the last year and some donated and/or purchased thanks to the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library. Walk for Wellbeing: A Mindful Practice for the Library Community

Saturday, March 22, 9:15 - 10:00 a.m.

Main Library

Community members are invited to meet at the Main Library Sudbury Road entrance and head to Emerson Field, where we will walk to the trees and try simple mindful practices that settle the nervous system. On the way back we will share inspiring book titles, and return to the Library refreshed and ready for a new story. Abundant Heresies: The Revolutions of Theodore Parker and Ralph Waldo Emerson - with Richard Smith

Thursday, March 20, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Public Historian Richard Smith (pictured) will discuss the literary and spiritual connections between Theodore Parker and Ralph Waldo Emerson and their respective hometowns - Lexington and Concord. How did Parker and Emerson use their heritage to help change American literature and thought? How did this affect the Anti-slavery Movement of the 1850s?

Enslaved in the Cradle of Liberty - Stories from the 17th & 18th Century Concord, Lincoln, and Sudbury

This event features a roundtable discussion focused on enslavement in New England, including a conversation with historians who have completed recent research on slavery in Concord, Lincoln, Sudbury, and Wayland.

Wednesday, March 19, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Join the high seas hijinks and lay waste to nasty critters with a roll of the dice. If you wish to drop in, please have a level 3 character ready to go, or, see Erick at the Teen Desk (sometime before game day) to build one.

Join Inishfree Massachusetts youth dancers (local to West Concord) for an afternoon of step dance performance. After the performance, there will be an opportunity for interested attendees to participate by learning a jig. Recommended for all ages. No registration required.

Be prepared to laugh, dance, sing, and jam your way through 30 minutes of non-stop family fun - With modern takes on children’s classics and classic original tunes, you will be humming and bopping with Jammin With You all the way home. Special Make-It Club: Spark Peace

Wednesday, March 19, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

The Workshop, Main Library

Join us every Wednesday afternoon for an awesome craft, art project, or engineering puzzle. This week we will be doing crafts with our friends from Concord Kids Care in celebration of this year's Students Rebuild theme - Spark Peace. Recommended for kids ages 5-10 and their caregivers. If your child is ages 5-9, please be prepared to stay with your child for the duration of the event. No registration required.

Meet a Veterinarian at Alphabet Storytime

Friday, March 21, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.

Children's Activity Room, Main Library

Come meet local Veterinarian, Dr. Steve Wilson. He will read stories about pets and demonstrate how he does an exam on a stuffed animal. Kids are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal. No registration required.

Art Jury

Calling artists who wish to display their artworks in the Main Library's Munroe Gallery -


Our next Art Jury will be held on Tuesday, April 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the Goodwin Forum.


  • Art Drop-off: No later than 5:30 p.m. on the evening of the Art Jury.
  • Judging: Between 6:00 and 7:15 p.m.
  • Art Pick-up: Between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m.


Submitting Your Work:

  • Bring five pieces of your work, framed or unframed, to the Goodwin Forum.
  • Pieces should reflect the type of work you would choose to include in an exhibition.
  • Label each piece with your name and contact information.
