Finding a Healthy Summer Balance

We hope our students are enjoying their summer and finding time to unplug, play, and have fun. For kids with learning differences, the "summer slide" is a real concern, but the cognitive fatigue they experience during the school year is also much higher than that of traditional learners. Our kids need to recharge.

Neuroscience shows that students who learn differently expend an immense amount of mental energy every day. True downtime isn't a luxury; it is a neurological necessity that allows the brain to reduce stress and replenish th e mental stamina needed for the coming year.

The key to avoiding the summer slide while protecting their mental well-being is a low-pressure balance. We absolutely want our students to keep reading, but we encourage families to redefine what literacy looks like:

  • Embrace Audiobooks: Listening to a story builds vocabulary and comprehension skills without the fatigue of decoding text.
  • Read Aloud Together: Shared family reading keeps the joy of storytelling alive and takes the pressure off the child.
  • Follow Their Interests: Graphic novels, comic books, and magazines all count. If they love the topic, their brains are engaged.

By protecting your child’s time to unplug, get outside, and just be a kid, you aren't falling behind—you are giving them the foundation they need to return to school confident, refreshed, and ready to learn.

We want to see what our Trident Academy students are up to! Whether you're traveling, working a summer job, or just hanging out, send your favorite summer pictures to Hallie at hmendoza@tridentacademy.com. Please include a brief caption with who is in the photo so we can feature them in our next newsletter!

Have a wonderful, restful summer!

SEAHAWK SCOOP:

Our Students Are Growing --

We're Collecting Gently Used Clothing

As the school year comes to a close, you're welcome to thin out your child's closet by donating his or her gently used Trident-branded clothing to our school. Please drop off your clothing items at our front desk or send them in with your child. We will let parents know this summer when we set a date for a used clothing sale before the new school year begins.

We are thrilled to announce an exciting shift within our leadership team effective July 1. Erik Kreutner will be stepping into the role of Assistant Head of School and Chief Operations Officer, while Jp Sticco will transition to Director of Admissions and Enrollment. Working alongside Interim Head of School Hacker Burr, both Erik and Jp have been hard at work onboarding early this summer and are ready to guide Trident Academy into a bright new chapter. We are incredibly grateful for their continued dedication to our mission, students, and families. Please join us in celebrating them in their new roles! Read more here.

We hope everyone has had an amazing start to their summer vacation! We want to hear all about it. Share a pic of your child enjoying their summer break, and we will feature them in an upcoming newsletter!

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

While our students are out enjoying their summer break, we’ve been busy on campus! We are spending the first part of the summer cleaning out, organizing, and refreshing various areas across the school. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, but we love getting the campus organized, polished, and ready to welcome everyone back in the fall.

Our summer campers are having the absolute best time on campus! Every day is packed with the perfect mix of learning, fun, and plenty of playtime with friends. From hands-on activities to outdoor games, our campers are making the most of their summer break.
