Weekly Update | March 27, 2026 | | |
March Musings
As March marches to a close next week, I am struck by all the things we’ve experienced since the end of February.
- Weather: fog, winds, storms, lots of sunshine, .37” of rain, and temperatures ranging from 35 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Events in the Charleston area included Charleston Wine + Food Festival, North Charleston St. Patrick’s Day Block Party and Parade, and The Charleston Festival, which continues through April 11. This weekend alone, Summerville’s Flowertown Festival, the Cooper River Bridge Run, and the beginning of the Credit One Charleston Open!
-
Events at Trident Academy included four field trips, our Annual Oyster Roast (we purchased the BUS!), report cards, parent conferences, TAPA meetings, our SAIS re-accreditation team visit, and our upper school science fair today. Spirit Week begins on Monday, and on Tuesday, our Parent Education series continues with a presentation by a nutritionist.
As we round the corner into April, I am struck by how fast the year has gone. Every month has been as busy as March, with student activities, parent programs, and faculty and staff planning. April promises to be just as busy!
- March 30-April 2: Spirit Week!
- Monday: Pajama Day
- Tuesday: Team Spirit Day
- Wednesday: Hero Day
- Thursday: Movie Character Day
-
March 31: Parent Education Series: Nutrition and the Brain
- April 3-12: Spring Break
- April 17: Grandparents/Special Friends Day
-
April 21: Parent Education Series: Emotional Regulation
- April 24: Field Day
- April 27: End-of-year testing begins
We are very busy people!
I am happy to announce that the SAIS reaccreditation visit went very well, and the team has informed us that, as expected, they will be recommending reaccreditation for Trident Academy for the next five years!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Blessings,
Betsy

Parent Education Series | Nutrition and the Brain: Fueling Focus & Behavior
Join us on Tuesday, March 31, at 8 a.m. on campus or over Zoom for our March Parent Education Session!
Join us as we welcome Alice LoGuidice from Journey Pediatrics for an engaging talk on pediatric functional medicine. She will explore how targeted food choices and key nutrients can support optimal brain development, cognition, and behavior in children. We’ll focus on practical strategies that benefit all kids—especially those with learning challenges, ADHD, autism, or other forms of neurodivergence—helping families use nutrition to support healthier, more resilient brains. Please encourage your friends and family to join us.

Admissions Update
We are receiving inquries daily from interested parents, and we are accepting and enrolling new students for next year. An important part of our admissions process is a two-day shadow visit, which allows a prospective student to get the feel for our school, our teachers, and potential classmates, and allows our teachers to see the student in a classroom setting. There are only a few weeks remaining to schedule shadow visits.
If you, friends, or family members are interested in applying for a child to attend Trident next year, we encourage you to submit an application soon in order to allow a shadow visit to occur! Visit our admissions process page to learn more.

Uniforms! As our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts. To purchase Trident Academy gear, please visit our school spirit store here >> Trident Academy Gear. We also have a large collection of gently used Trident-branded items available at school in a variety of sizes.
In addition, with many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

In this space, you can usually learn about upcoming parent education events hosted by other members of the Association of LD Schools (ALDS). The only such event next week is our own Parent Education Series presentation on nutrition and the brain (see above).
Instead, this week we're sharing information from the ALDS organization itself: What distinguishes an ALDS school like Trident Academy from a traditional school with support services?
In an ALDS school, the entire educational model is intentionally designed around students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and executive function challenges. Across the ALDS network, this includes:
➡️ evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in the science of reading
➡️ small class sizes and differentiated instruction
➡️ dedicated faculty trained in LD-focused pedagogy
➡️ a community where students’ learning needs are not only understood, but celebrated
➡️ instructional strategies that nurture productive (not defeating) struggle and self-advocacy
Equally important is the culture of these schools. Students’ learning profiles are not simply recognized and understood—they're celebrated. By leveraging student strengths and building safe, trusting learning environments, ALDS educators empower kids to discover the unique tools and strategies that will help them blossom into capable, confident, successful learners.
| Summer Enrichment at Trident Academy is designed for rising first through rising eighth grade students who are struggling in reading and/or math skills. This year's courses include Reading Foundations, Reading Comprehension/Applied Writing, and Multi-Sensory Math. In response to parent requests for a longer day, we have also added optional non-academic enrichment sessions.Learn more and register here! | | WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS: | | It was a big day for our Middle and High School scientists! The halls were buzzing with curiosity today as our students presented their hard work at the annual Science Fair. Great job to all our participants for their dedication, critical thinking, and "eureka" moments. The future of STEM is looking bright! | | Ms. Melendez’s students headed outside this week to discover the essentials of planting by exploring how seeds, soil, sun, and water work together to spark new life! | | Our OG students "steeped" themselves in spelling this week by using grEEn tEA to master the difference between the -ee and -ea vowel teams! | | This week in art class, they explored the power of line drawing, with each student selecting a unique animal to study. It's amazing to see how much detail can be captured without any shading at all! | | |
