Connection

This week, I’ve been off campus attending the annual conference of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). This event is always filled with sessions that seem to be tailor-made with growth opportunities for Trident Academy. This year was no exception. In every session I’ve attended, I’ve made note of ways to use these nuggets of wisdom to help make us a stronger community.

Strategies for deep listening, recognizing the natural wobble in our world, making meaningful connections, and resetting commitment to mission are just a few of the ideas that are swimming around in my head, waiting to be synthesized and acted upon.

Having connections with others is a fundamental human need. Our students must feel connected to their teachers in order to maximize their learning experiences. Adults in the building need connection to the greater purpose of our mission: transforming lives. Families who trust us to do what is necessary for the education of their children find connection and community when participating in Trident Academy Parent Association (TAPA) events, as well as our Parent Education Series.

A perfect way to get connected is by attending our Annual Oyster Roast next Friday evening, March 6. It promises to be a fun-filled evening, full of connections! Please plan to attend; you don’t have to eat oysters!

Blessings,

Betsy

Uniforms!
As our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts. To purchase
Trident Academy gear, please visit our school spirit store here >> Trident Academy Gear. We also have a large collection of gently used Trident-branded items available at school in a variety of sizes.

In addition, with many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

New Math Enrichment Program on Trident Academy's Campus

Vital Mathematics is an after-school math enrichment program for students in grades K through 5. Directed by a former accountant and New York City math teacher with significant special education and gifted & talented experience, this program will operate behind our main building in part of the space formerly occupied by Crown Leadership Academy. Registration is open now, and classes will begin in March. See the Vital Mathematics flyer for more information.

Re-Enrollment Reminder

It's never too late to re-enroll your child at Trident Academy for 2026-27! We understand that some families have extenuating circumstances, including the desire to learn the amount of this year's scholarship grants from Exceptional SC. We understand that notification about those awards should be coming very soon.

If you have any trouble with the re-enrollment process, please contact Director of Enrollment Erik Kreutner (ekreutner@tridentacademy.com). Thanks to the families who have already submitted their children's re-enrollment information!

We have started accepting new students for next year, and it will be important for us to know how many students we can accept. We are grateful that our parents continue to entrust their children's education to Trident Academy!

Upcoming Parent Education Events

As a founding member of the Association of LD Schools, Trident Academy is proud to offer our parents access to parent education events presented by other ALDS schools.

  • On Wednesday, March 4 (12:30 pm), The Groves School in Minnesota will present a webinar titled Pillow Fights: Sleep Issues in Kids and Teens. A good night’s sleep is more than just rest; it’s the foundation for learning, focus, and emotional well-being. Yet, for many kids and teens, sleep doesn’t come easily. Sleep difficulties can impact everything from cognitive processing and academic performance to social-emotional growth, and sometimes the signs of sleep deprivation can even mimic other disorders. More information can be found here (please note that the Groves School is in the Central time zone).

  • On Wednesday, March 4 (6:00 pm), The Gow School in New York State will offer a presentation titled Strengthen Growing Brains: How improving executive functioning skills builds competence and confidence for neurodivergent students at home and at school. Registration is available here.

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

Our Middle School scientists took a journey through millions of years this week as they deconstructed the geological time scale. Students worked on visualizing the major eras of Earth's history, including the Paleozoic and Mesozoic, to understand how life and landscapes have evolved over time.

Our students were hard at work this week in art class on a top-secret project for the upcoming Oyster Roast! Make sure to grab your tickets so you can see the final reveal in person—and you might even get the chance to take it home!

Our middle schoolers have been busy bringing history to life with their latest social studies project! Students used a variety of materials to engineer detailed 3D models of the Alamo, focusing on the architectural layout and key historical features of the over three hundred year-old mission.

Our students took a closer look at a favorite snack this week by dissecting strawberries to uncover some surprising botanical facts. While we usually call the whole thing a "fruit," the tiny dots on the outside are actually the individual fruits, with the seeds tucked safely inside! The red part we love to eat is technically an enlarged part of the flower.
