Weekly Update | March 20, 2026 | | |
Change
Weather is a thing. The old adage about Charleston weather held true this week: “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes!” If I had waited five or ten minutes on Monday morning, we would have held classes for at least half a day. The moment I hit send on the final communication that school would be closed, the storm disappeared from the radar, and, as we know, the storms continued moving along and not materializing as predicted.
With our SAIS re-accreditation visit finally happening next week (after the January weather delay!), and spring break around the corner, we have lots to look forward to.
And after spring break, we will host Grandparents’/Special Friends Day, participate in Field Day, conduct end-of-year assessments, finish up with last-minute field trips, a school play, and our second annual Senior Clap Out! All culminating in our Celebration Ceremonies and High School Graduation on May 20!
Whew!
Blessings,
Betsy

We Appreciate Exceptional SC!
We are once again grateful for our state's Educational Credit for Exceptional Needs Children (ECENC) program, which was designed to make it easier for families of students with special needs to send them to private schools in South Carolina. Through the Exceptional SC organization created by this program, 47 Trident Academy students were awarded $284,000 in scholarship grants for the current school year, for an average of $6,043 per student. The funds provided by Exceptional SC vary from year to year depending on the organization's fundraising activities and the number of scholarship applicants.
As a reminder, funds provided by Exceptional SC are not need-based; they are awarded to all eligible students from eligible schools who have applied to the program. Trident students generally qualify for the program through a diagnosis that falls under "specific learning disability", which is an eligible condition. Trident Academy has been an "eligible school" since the inception of the ECENC/ Exceptional SC program in 2013, and we appreciate the financial support that it has provided to our families during the past decade-plus.
We will remind our parents about important dates and deadlines related to the Exceptional SC application process, which should open for the 2026-27 school year in June.

Uniforms! As our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts. To purchase Trident Academy gear, please visit our school spirit store here >> Trident Academy Gear. We also have a large collection of gently used Trident-branded items available at school in a variety of sizes.
In addition, with many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

Upcoming Parent Education Events
As a founding member of the Association of LD Schools, Trident Academy is proud to offer our parents access to parent education events presented by other ALDS schools.
On Wednesday, March 25 (7:00 pm), Landmark School near Boston will offer a webinar titled Managing Relationship Skills & Social Awareness. Students with language-based learning differences often struggle to read social cues, use pragmatic language, and build strong peer relationships. This webinar will explain how these learning differences affect social communication and why explicit instruction is essential. Families will learn practical, easy-to-use strategies—like role-playing, using books or TV to explore perspective-taking, teaching social scripts, and supporting conflict resolution—to help children navigate social situations with confidence. More information can be found here.
| Summer Enrichment at Trident Academy is designed for rising first through rising eighth grade students who are struggling in reading and/or math skills.
