Life Changing

I love being the Head of this school. I love interacting with our students. I love noodling through problems and working with our amazing teachers and staff to find solutions. I love helping students learn to make good choices. I love the small, random acts of kindness we witness every day: holding doors for others, helping clean up after lunch, giving a small pat on the back to show support, picking up a dropped pencil for a classmate, saying a kind word.

Our students are remarkable people. They come to us with baggage left over from other educational experiences, not sure they will be okay in a new school. It is wonderful to watch their old baggage slough away and new, positive energy emerge. It happens without fail. And, without fail, I am always moved.

This morning I had a drop-in visitor: Sid Brantley of Brantley Construction. Sid’s daughter attended Trident Academy in the early 2000s as a lower school student, and he wanted to let me know how Trident Academy “saved her life”. He credits the individual instruction and care we provided with putting her on the right path. She is a proud graduate of Clemson University and is now working in the family business. As Sid sat in my office telling his story and choking up each time he mentioned our saving his baby girl, I was reminded of the lasting impact we have on our students, and how we may never know it until a proud and grateful dad comes in and tells us.

Enjoy your weekend!

Betsy

Uniforms!
As our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts. To purchase
Trident Academy gear, please visit our school spirit store here >> Trident Academy Gear. We also have a large collection of gently used Trident-branded items available at school in a variety of sizes.

In addition, with many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

New Math Enrichment Program on Trident Academy's Campus

Vital Mathematics is an after-school math enrichment program for students in grades K through 5. Directed by a former accountant and New York City math teacher with significant special education and gifted & talented experience, this program will operate behind our main building in part of the space formerly occupied by Crown Leadership Academy. Registration is open now, and classes will begin in March. See the Vital Mathematics flyer for more information.

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

Our lower elementary students visited the Dock Street Theatre for Charleston Stage's presentation of Dragons Love Tacos. Second grader Allie, an aspiring theater critic, gives the play "ten stars out of ten!"

This week, our high school students had two great opportunities to explore what the future could have in store for them. On Tuesday, they visited Newberry College to learn more about its Language-Based Learning Differences Program, which is designed to offer students diagnosed with dyslexia a helpful educational and residential environment with personalized support.

On Thursday, they attended Trident Technical College's Career Day, where they met Trident Tech faculty, toured classrooms and labs, gathered career information and observed hands-on demonstrations. Local employers were on hand to represent local industries and answer career questions. Our students' eyes were opened to a world of possibilities!
