Monthly Update | February 2026

Six More Weeks?!

Yes, Virginia, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow! What a fun and interesting “event” to celebrate in February. It does break up the two coldest months of our year, giving us something to entertain away our winter blues.

I’m not sure why I’ve never looked this up before, but six weeks from February 2 is just days before the first day of Spring. Hmm. So all these years, ole Phil has been prognosticating a sure thing. Whether he sees his shadow (six more weeks) or doesn’t (spring comes sooner), he’s correct. Mull that one over a bit!

I checked out the “Old Farmer’s Almanac”, a more reliable source than Phil (?). It gives a Spring and Fall planting guide, which tells us that planting after the last spring frost is recommended. The average last spring frost for Mount Pleasant (as recorded on Sullivan’s Island) is (drum roll, please) March 21, the day after the spring equinox! But take heart, the average last spring frost for Charleston is March 1.

I’ve tried here to make light of our weather maladies. Last weekend, trying to decide what to do about school on Monday by trying to discern Punxsutawney-like prognostications was challenging.  Sometimes it feels like we are searching tea leaves and shadows. We do the best we can and err on the side of safety when making decisions about school closures.

It appears that we are in for a beautiful weekend…no snow!

Blessings,

Betsy

We can't wait to see everyone this March!

Uniforms!
We're in the coldest time of the year, so it's important for our students to stay warm -- especially when they're outside for recess. In addition, as our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts.

With many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

Re-Enrollment Period: February 2026

Re-enrollment invitations for 2026-27 were emailed to current 1st-11th grade parents on Tuesday, February 3. If for some reason you did not receive this email, please contact Director of Enrollment Erik Kreutner (ekreutner@tridentacademy.com). Thanks to the families who have already submitted their children's re-enrollment information!

We have started accepting new students for next year, and it will be important for us to know how many students we can accept. We are grateful that our parents continue to entrust their children's education to Trident Academy!

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

Our students took us on a journey across the globe today for our Around the World showcase. Students in all grades did an incredible job researching and presenting the rich cultures of France, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Spain, Australia, Greece, and Germany. We loved seeing our students' hard work shine as they presented to our parents and their peers. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to explore with us!

Our Trident Academy tennis team has officially kicked off their season. Our student-athletes have been working hard to develop their skills and master their fundamentals even though the rain kept them in the gym.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade "authors" are celebrating their roots! For their latest project, students created books exploring their family stories and unique cultures. We’ve loved learning about what makes each student's family so special!

Our 4th graders tackled persuasive writing this week with a Super Bowl twist. Students practiced using strong "hook" sentences and supporting details to persuade their audience to root for their favorite team. We love seeing our students get so passionate about their writing!

Our students started their jump rope unit in PE this week! Did you know that the quick, repetitive movements help improve spatial awareness and mental alertness? By jumping rope, our Seahawks are actually prepping their brains for better focus during class!
