Accreditation Goal #3: Enhance and Expand the OutReach Program at Trident Academy

Next week, our SAIS Accreditation Team, composed of four current and retired educators from across the Southeast, will be on our campus conducting their formal visit to our school. They will visit classrooms and will meet with groups of teachers, students, parents, board members, and alumni. It’s an exciting time for us to show off the good work we do at Trident Academy. We are excited to welcome them!

Our third and final re-accreditation goal is centered around our outreach efforts in the community. This includes tutoring, summer programming, teacher training, and community awareness programs.

Here is an abbreviated excerpt from our school report for this goal area:

  • PROFILE: What is the current status of this goal area?
  • The current Outreach program consists of tutoring, summer enrichment programming, and parent education programs that are open to the public and available on our website. However, it lacks dedicated, accountable leadership and a formal structure, resulting in inconsistent execution of initiatives. Once a formal structure is established around the OutReach program, the number of children with learning differences our school could support will grow significantly.

  • VISION: What does the school hope to achieve with this goal?
  • The vision for an enhanced OutReach Program is to establish Trident Academy as the definitive leader in the Charleston area on learning difference education.
  • Support more families and students
  • Grow the admissions pipeline
  • Increase community visibility

  • PLAN: What specific steps must the school take to accomplish this goal?

  • The key focus points in our plan to enhance our Outreach Program are team coordination and accountability, program feedback and enhancement, and leveraging internal talent.
  • Develop and approve a mission statement for the Outreach Program.
  • Reestablish core programs
  • Boost program scale
  • Formalize and unify program management
  • School partnerships
  • Community events
  • Sustain new initiatives
  • RESULTS: How will the school determine whether it has reached this goal?
  • Form and convene an Outreach Team and maintain minutes of all meetings held throughout each school year.
  • Document the approval and implementation of a new compensation structure for tutors and the formal appointment of a Lead Tutor to address leadership/administrative needs.
  • Track participation in community events, aiming to complete at least four events on the approved calendar developed by the Outreach Team.
  • Track the increase in the average number of students enrolled in the Tutoring Program each year, aiming for a 20% increase.
  • Track the increase in overall enrollment for the Summer Enrichment Program, aiming for a 20% increase, demonstrating improved program appeal and marketing effectiveness.
  • Track digital marketing metrics related to tutoring and summer enrichment.
  • Track Parent Education Series attendance and aim for a 30% increase.
  • Successfully secure and contract with appropriate training partners (OG, executive function, math, etc.),  reestablishing appropriate teacher training in the summers.
  • Successfully finalize, approve, and begin implementation of a new Formal School Partnership Protocol in an effort to create a seamless student transition process and to introduce other schools to Trident Academy’s unique model.
  • Track the number of new admissions inquiries that explicitly cite a Trident Academy Outreach Program (Tutoring, Parent Series, Screener, Training) as their primary source of awareness.

We have set some ambitious goals that we believe are attainable and of great benefit to our students, parents, and community. It will be exciting to watch us grow into our dreams!

Stay warm this weekend! It’s looking like a really cold blast is heading our way!

Blessings,

Betsy

Weather Update

We are closely monitoring the weather reports and will make a decision about having school on Monday based on predicted melting temperatures on Sunday. Our hope is that the predicted icing will be less than forecast. It is far better for our students to be in class at school. Please watch for a message from Mrs. Fanning on Sunday afternoon.

Uniforms!
We're in the coldest time of the year, so it's important for our students to stay warm -- especially when they're outside for recess. In addition, as our students have grown since the start of school, several of them have begun to outgrow their shirts, shorts, and skirts.

With many students wearing identical school-branded items that end up in our lost and found, please be sure your child's Trident gear is labeled with their name.

WHAT'S HAPPENING ON CAMPUS:

This week, our second graders kicked off their measurement unit by exploring non-standard units and place value. They even made full-body outlines of themselves to practice grouping in tens and measured their own height!

Our 6th grade students got an incredible behind-the-scenes look at the National Weather Service! They explored the tools used to monitor local weather and learned exactly how data is collected from across our region. The team even showed them a weather balloon up close, explained the complex process of how they create a forecast, and took them into the safe room to see all the high-tech monitors in action. It was the perfect way to bring their science lessons to life.

We were honored to host Capt. David M. Vermillion from the U.S. Space Force. He shared his expertise on space, satellites, and the fascinating world of drone communication and weather. Our students were captivated as they learned how space technology impacts our lives every day here on Earth. A huge thank you to Capt. Vermillion for inspiring our future scientists and explorers!

Our high schoolers took their learning out into the field this week! Students visited the grocery store to compare common food products and analyze the differences between GMO and non-GMO (organic) versions. They dove deep into ingredient labels and compared pricing to understand the real-world trade-offs of the food we buy.
