Anchors Aweigh: Middle Schoolers Chart a New Course in STEM

Recently we rolled out an amazing new partnership between Trident Academy and Lowcountry Maritime School, which has generated significant excitement on campus. 

This STEM program (for 7th and 8th graders) not only will give students a chance to build and race their own top-of-the-line RC sailboat, but also will teach them the math and science of sailing, weather forecasting, aerodynamics, electronics, wave quality, tidal currents, compass navigation, measurement, and the maritime history of our region. Soft skills like team building, collaboration and leadership will also be a point of focus. 

Stay tuned for more updates as our boats take shape, and we hope you will come out to watch us race against other schools later in the school year.

Vital Mathematics at Trident Academy

Vital Mathematics offers K–5 mathematics after-school enrichment at Trident Academy designed to help students build strong mathematical foundations, think deeply, solve problems creatively, and develop a genuine enjoyment of learning math.


Vital Mathematics was founded by Michael Salomon, an experienced educator who taught in New York City public school classrooms with students ranging from special education through gifted.


Using a Singapore-based approach and a carefully sequenced, rigorous curriculum, students develop conceptual understanding and number sense through academic discussion, hands-on activities, independent practice, and reflection. Whether a student is looking for additional challenge, support with foundational skills, or simply loves learning math, Vital Mathematics provides a small-group environment where students can grow as confident mathematical thinkers.


The goal? Students who leave elementary school with a strong mathematical foundation, along with the confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving skills to build on it for years to come.

SEAHAWK :

Our Art Club held its very first meeting of the year this week! It was awesome seeing our creative Seahawks dive into passion projects outside of their regular art classes, experiment with new techniques, and sharpen their craft together.

In PE this week our Seahawks practiced their footwork, hand-eye coordination, and serve techniques while mastering the fundamentals of rally play and sportsmanship.

Our 4th and 5th graders got a front-row seat to wildlife science this week! The class zoomed directly with experts at the South Carolina Aquarium to learn all about river otters and the incredible ways they adapt to survive and thrive in their environments.

Our Middle School ELA students crushed their reading goals this week and earned an awesome reward! To celebrate, Mr. Sticco joined the class for a lively round of "Who Knows Me Better?" -- and doughnuts!

Nothing beats combining a love for reading with a little friendly competition and classroom fun. Way to go, Seahawks!
