Welcome to October--Dyslexia Awareness Month! We are excited to celebrate alongside our incredible Trident Academy community.
For more than five decades, our school has been at the forefront of educating students who learn differently. As experts in this field of education, we know that dyslexia is not a limitation—it is a distinct way of processing, creating, and innovating. This month, we are excited to expand that mission further by honoring the power of Dyslexic Thinking: the unique creativity, big-picture problem-solving, and spatial reasoning that shape our world every day.
Here is a glimpse at what we have in store this month:
1. Spotlighting Famous Dyslexic Thinkers Every Day
Throughout October, we are spotlighting a famous dyslexic thinker on our Facebook and Instagram every single day! From actors like Tom Holland and icons like Cher to Nobel Prize-winning scientist Carol Greider, we are showing our students and community that dyslexic minds drive some of the world’s greatest achievements.
2. Official Proclamation from Mayor Cogswell
We are honored to announce that Mayor William Cogswell has officially issued a Proclamation declaring October as Learning Differences Awareness Month in the City of Charleston! We appreciate our local government leadership for recognizing and championing our students who learn differently. This is a powerful validation for our students and our school.
3. Global Film Screening: What is Dyslexia?
We are thrilled to partner with Made By Dyslexia’s global movement to bring their short film starring Liv Tyler and Jeremy Irons to our community!
Following its world premiere in New York (watch the premiere recap here), we are joining the global campaign to get "What is Dyslexia?" onto 100 million screens this October.
We will host a screening of "What is Dyslexia?" during the week of October 26. Stay tuned for the venue and more details coming very soon!
Every dyslexic child deserves to understand their innate brilliance, and every adult around them deserves to see the incredible potential they hold. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate the strengths, resilience, and power of all dyslexic thinkers this month.
Thank you,
Hacker
