This Sunday in Worship

When was the last time you saw someone model how to listen? Personally, I can’t recall seeing this actually happen recently. In our culture everyone wants to be heard but does anyone care to listen? I certainly do not see it on cable news shows where the established format is to have three to four guest competing to out talk the other - usually devolving into nothing more than a shouting match. The goal seems to be more drama not the open and honest exchange of opinions. It appears that no one knows how to listen. If we are not careful, we can easily allow how we communicate with other people to influence how we communicate with God. If we have to be the one who does all the talking - then we are not the one who listens, and we really do need to listen to God. This Sunday as we continue our series on prayer we will look specifically at what it means to listen to God. “When you Pray - Listen.” The Scripture for Sunday is Proverbs 2:1-5

One more thing…
I hope you all had the chance to read Mike Sciascia’s email detailing his call to ordained ministry and his plans to begin his Master’s Degree work at The Divinity School at Duke University. Mike will be greatly missed as he has done an amazing job as our Student Minister and has built deep and meaningful relationships with the youth and adults at DUMC. Personally, I will miss working with Mike and the great conversations we have had about God, Scripture, the Church, ministry, and life in general. I ask that you join me in praying for Mike as he makes this life-changing decision to follow God to the next phase of his journey. Also, pray for our youth as they are mourning this news even as the celebrate Mike’s call. Finally, pray for whomever God is calling here next to continue the work that Mike has helped elevate over the past three years. The SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee) is already moving forward with a process to help us successfully navigate the transition from Mike to his successor. Specifically, pray for this process and for the person God is already calling to carry out the important work of student ministry in this place. Fortunately, Mike will be with us through the summer and has given ample notice to find the next person.
