Celebrating Haitian Hertiage Month

Kingdom of No Tomorrow

Fabienne Josaphat

Aspen Words Literary Prize (Longlist — 2025)

PEN/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction (Winner — 2023)

"The author is drawing clear parallels between police violence then and now. In her acknowledgements, Josaphat writes that she has “always been fascinated by the minds of radicals.” Unhappily, her clichéd prose makes a poor container for the history she reveres. A strong premise set amid the Black Panther Party falters in its execution."

—Kirkus Reviews

"Richly detailing the sights, sounds, and urgency of late 1960s Oakland and Chicago, Josaphat offers a profoundly empathetic portrait of a controversial movement."

Village Weaver

Myriam J. A. Chancy

Winner of the 2025 OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature

Chancy’s heartfelt prose lays bare the women’s inner lives, and the story is further enriched by its symbolism, such as the bird referenced in the title that “talks all day long as market women are said to,” which Sisi remembers when thinking of her grandmother and the other women from Port-au-Prince’s bustling marketplace. . . Chancy continues to impress with this character-driven view of Haiti’s turbulent history."

—Publishers Weekly

“A compelling and satisfying read that acknowledges the bitter truths of history and dares to imagine a path forward."

Author Talk: José Edgardo Cruz Figueroa

Join us for a reading and author talk by Professor José Edgardo Cruz Figueroa, author of El Plato De Barro.

From the prologue: "In these stories, there is a yearning for love tempered by disenchantment. There are other things, fueled by the desire to idealize the mundane and inexplicable in order to preserve it, whether it be a sincere friendship or a clayplate that falls to the floor. More than anything, these stories are a mixture of imagination and reverie, an excuse to remember from the past what could not be and never will be."
