Recognizing Earth Day

The Uninhabitable Earth: Life After Warming

David Wallace-Wells

#1 New York Times Bestseller

"The Uninhabitable Earth hits you like a comet, with an overflow of insanely lyrical prose about our pending Armageddon."

—Andrew Solomon, author of The Noonday Demon

"Potent and evocative... Wallace-Wells has resolved to offer something other than the standard narrative of climate change... He avoids the ‘eerily banal language of climatology’ in favor of lush, rolling prose."

Jennifer Szalai, The New York Times

Silent Spring

Rachel Carson

One of the great texts of the ecology movement shows how the widespread use of pesticides is poisoning the environment. "

—Booklist Online

There is enough evidence to point to the far-reaching effects; but this is only the beginning,—in cancer, in liver disorders, in radiation perils…This is the horrifying story. It needed to be told—and by a scientist with a rare gift of communication and an overwhelming sense of responsibility."
