Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff,
Thursday is Veteran’s Day, and on behalf of the entire University, I want to take this opportunity to thank all veterans, in particular the many William Paterson students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have served our country in the armed forces. The WP Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, which does a great job supporting our veteran and active duty students, is hosting a series of related events this week, beginning with Remembrance Day Civic Engagement Activities on Wednesday, a Zanfino Plaza flag planting on Thursday, and a Veterans Career Workshop next Tuesday, Nov. 16. I want to thank all the students who turned out to the Cheng Library Auditorium for last week’s Town Hall meeting on the University’s enrollment and budget challenges. Thanks, also, to Dr. Guillermo de Veyga, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and University Relations; Dr. Reginald Ross, Vice President for Enrollment Management; Dr. Joshua Powers, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs; and Dr. Miki Cammarata, Vice President for Student Development, for hosting the event. Students are at the center of all we do, so it is critical that we engage with them on these important topics and take every opportunity to assure them that nothing will keep us from continuing to offer an excellent, affordable education. Our enrollment and budget challenges are real, but I have every confidence that the collective capability and dedication of the William Paterson community will overcome them. When we do, we will be a stronger institution, well-positioned for success in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.
As Provost Powers recently communicated directly to faculty and professional staff, the offices of Academic Affairs, Student Development, and Enrollment Management will host the What Works Conference on Monday, December 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Zoom. This will be a great opportunity for faculty and staff to engage with each other about what works with regard to student success. The conference will feature breakout session presentations by WP faculty and staff, as well as students, to an audience of WP faculty and staff. Session proposal submissions are invited by the November 11 deadline, and more information can be found here.
This week’s WP: We are Proud – Congratulations to WP student Natalia Rybak, who is one of 12 recipients of the first RIA Talent Advantage Student Scholarship, awarded by Schwab Advisor Services and the Charles Schwab Foundation. Natalia, a Bridgewater resident, will receive $10,000 for the 2021-22 academic year and will be matched with a mentor from Schwab Advisor Services. The RIA Talent Advantage Student Scholarship was created to help remove financial barriers, advocate for diversity, and open doors for future talent within the independent registered investment advisor (RIA) industry, with half being awarded to students from historically underrepresented groups.
Here we are in November, and our campus continues to be a vibrant and active place for learning, living, and socializing. That success is due to all of you and your commitment to our mission and to keeping each other safe. Thank you, and have a great week.
