Office of the President

November 21, 2022

Dear William Paterson Faculty and Staff,

We are at the point in the semester when what remains can be measured in days, rather than weeks or months. My final Office Hours of the semester for faculty and staff will take place next week, on Thursday, December 1 at 12:30 p.m. in University Commons, room 171B.

The opportunity for undergraduates to conduct research is one of the many great distinctions of the WP experience, and I encourage you to support our Honors students by seeing what they’ve been up to at Fall 2022 Honors Research Night next Monday, November 28. The poster session and group presentations by first-year classes will take place from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the UC Ballrooms, and senior thesis project presentations will take place from 6:00-9:00 p.m. in UC 168 A/B.

Earlier this month, on Election Day, Dr. Guillermo de Veyga, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and University Relations, served as a political analyst during WCBS-TV news coverage of the mid-term elections. Dr. de Veyga participated in live interactions on election night and the following morning with the news anchors and as part of panel discussions. The opportunity for his inclusion stems from the long-standing relationship between the University and WCBS that grew from our partnership with them in producing two gubernatorial debates.

Giving Day 2022

This week’s WPWe are Proud – I am pleased to share that nearly $35,000 was contributed in support of our students for William Paterson’s Fall Giving Day.  Proceeds from each of the six projects will ensure that our aspiring and hardworking students have both the tools and the resources to have a transformational experience. The College of Education received a bonus award of $500 for having the greatest number of donors out of the four academic colleges. Thank you to everyone who participated by supporting our students.

Due to the coming long weekend, the next weekly updates email will be sent two weeks from today, on December 5. In the meantime, I hope everyone is able to spend time with family and loved ones and enjoy some good food and relaxation over the coming break, and I wish you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!

Sincerely,

Richard J. Helldobler, Ph.D.
