Event: Urban Equity & Climate Resilience in the New Urban Agenda

IHC Global is pleased to be joining with RTI International and USAID   a week from Tuesday to  co-host a dialogue "Beyond Habitat III:  Integrating Urban Equity & Climate Resilience in the New Urban Agenda." This important  event will discuss the profound impact that urbanization has had on the global environment  and strategies for building equity into climate resilience activities in the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The session will  look at climate resilience in cities from the perspective of policy makers and practitioners, present research findings, and discuss lessons learned from previous resilience approaches. The program will include guest speakers and open dialogue with attendees.

The United Nations Children's Fund has released a new Strategy for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for 2016-2030. The new strategy will have a fresh approach to providing access to resources for children around the world. UNICEF acknowledges that the Sustainable Development Goals set a high bar for "safely managed" water and sanitation services, but in many areas of the world, even the most basic requirements are not met. UNICEF aims to increase their efforts in achieving the SDGs by advocating for better national water policies and systems, providing key prerequisites for sustainable WASH services, and providing leadership in natural disaster response. IHC Global is gratified to see that "Urban" is one of UNICEF's three new strategic directions to "reach the most vulnerable wherever they are."

CIVICUS, Development Initiatives and Project Everyone are collaborating for the Leave No One Behind pledge, and are looking for people to get involved in national dialogues. Over the next few months, the organizations will be working with partners to coordinate 30 Leave No One Behind National Dialogues, with the eventual goal of building a national multi-stakeholder coalition, identifying key recommendations to present to decision makers, creating an accountability process and supporting innovative solutions for the LNB and for the SDGs in general. 

The August-October National Dialogues will be taking place in Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Fiji, India, Jamaica, Nepal, Nigeria, The Philippines, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda and Zimbabwe. If you are working in any of these countries and would like to participate in the National Dialogue, please fill out this form. 

The September-November National Dialogues will be taking place in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cambodia, East Timor, Egypt, El Salvador, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Rwanda and Tunisia.
