N.C. 105 Closure Extended in Watauga County

BANNER ELK – N.C. 105 is expected to remain closed between Broadstone Road and Old Shulls Mill Road until at least tomorrow evening.

Contract crews for the N.C. Department of Transportation are clearing materials from the road and stabilizing the slopes adjacent to the roadway after a blasting operation earlier in the week.

Drivers are encouraged to utilize the following detour route from Boone to Avery County:

  • Take U.S. 321 to Lenoir
  • From Lenoir, take U.S. 64 to Morganton
  • From Morganton, take N.C. 181 to Pineola
  • From Pineola, take U.S. 221 to Linville

Message boards have been placed in key intersections to direct motorists.

Check DriveNC.gov for real-time traffic information and continuous updates or follow NCDOT on social media.

Given the current weather conditions, the Water and Sewer utility contractor has asked to keep Main Street closed over night so they can adequately stabilize the utility cuts and patches before traffic is released through the weekend. By Friday afternoon/evening, Iron Mtn Construction expects to have the area stabilized for weekend traffic.
