Adding Fertilizer -
Whimsy, wonder and things that go bump in the night.
Fantasy, mystery, such a glorious delight
Music by the band No Exceptions
Crowds of children exceeding expectations
"Trunk or Treat" rings out from young and old
Smiles adorn the faces as stories are told
Pirates, ninjas and Elsas galore
Witches and two Hulks who could want more
A dapper Dixie chicken and a barrel of
monkeys stroll by
But alas even this show must come to nigh
So let's do it again, oh let's indeed
1510 Jamaica 5 PM on All Hallow's Eve.
I love you,
Kyle

Rev. Sue's Tendril: A Priesthood Shaped by Mutual Ministry-Serving a "Large" Church (Part 3 of a 3-Part Series Commemorating the 15th Anniversry of My Ordination)
Note: My fellow parishoners, I know these write-ups are longer than usual. However, so many of you have asked me about my background as a priest that many of your questions will be answered by reading this.
When I was selected as the priestly member of the Mutual Ministry (MM) Team at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Prosser, Washington (WA), I told the congregation I could only serve ~5 years. Bill and I had set a goal early in our secular careers to retire at age 55, and we were blessed to be able to achieve this goal in 2004. We had already made a decision to move to Florida to be closer to Bill's sister and husband (Cynthia and Meb Jackson) who lived in Naples and attended St. Mark's.
That year (2004) turned out to be a difficult one for me, as my mother died two months before my retirement. In addition, it was the height of the housing boom in Florida, and finding an affordable house in Naples that fit our "wants" proved to be too difficult. Thus, we ended up moving to a development in Kissimmee. Naively, we thought it would be a "quick" drive to visit Naples on a routine basis, unaware of the traffic situation in Florida during season.
By the time we settled in Florida, I was physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained. Mourning for my mother's death, the separation from our long-standing church family and friends, as well as all the many other changes we had made in a period of 6 months, had taken their toll on me.
After "church shopping," we settled on St. John's Episcopal Church, Kissimmee. This church had a regular attendance of ~400 people-a "large" church by my standards. For almost a year, I sat in the pews, unsure of whether I could continue to serve as a priest. I did not even tell St. John's Rector, Father Cecil, about the MM role I had filled in WA State. Now I see that God was using that time to enable me to heal and to reveal to me how the basic tenets of MM could be applied at St. John's.
At the end of that year of respite, I knew it was time to talk to Father Cecil. After a long conversation with him, he graciously invited me to become a member of his staff. I remained a canonical resident of the Diocese of Spokane, with a license to serve in the Diocese of Central Florida. In accordance with one of the basic tenets of MM, I continued to serve in a non-stipendiary capacity. As an Assisting Priest, I led and/or participated in worship on a weekly basis. I also worked with the ministry team, which included two deacons, to support the teaching mission of St. John's. As part of this mission, I assisted in the formation and nurturing of "small groups". These groups, which met on a weekly or twice-monthly basis, were used to promote St. John's teaching mission and to facilitate the fellowship, honesty, and vulnerability that are necessary for spiritual growth. My MM training and "small" church experience were directly applicable to this endeavor. St. John's is also where I started my Pet Ministry.
In 2008, Bill and I made the decision to move to Naples. Kissimmee was just too far away from Cynthia and Meb to see them on a regular basis. Even though it was difficult to leave St. John's, we had attended St. Mark's a number of times while visiting Naples. On one of our visits, I had talked to Father Kyle and Father John about serving their congregation in the same manner that I had served St. John's. When I received the go-ahead from Father Kyle, I became licensed in the Diocese of Southwest Florida. This time, the transition was much easier. I knew where God wanted me to be. I want to thank Father Kyle and all of you for your support of this MM priest as she continues to joyfully minister the Gospel of grace and love at St. Mark's.

Important News from the Dominican Republic Mission
The Dominican Children Sponsorships are HERE!!! If you are already a sponsor --just stop by the Parish Hall after the Service during Worship2 and pick up your information. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor--just stop by the table and we will show you just how easy it is to become a sponsor!!!!
The actual cost for a child to attend the Children's Shelter runs approx. $675.00 per year...your sponsorship of $275.00 helps cover some of these costs such as food, uniforms, toothbrushes etc. Since no child is ever turned away, we ask you to keep this mission in your prayers. For more information or questions, call Wendy Happney 398-1037, or Al Diaz 438-5285. Thank you from your committee members for opening your hearts to the children.

Sign Up to Walk, Donate to End Alzheimer's Disease
Do you know someone with memory loss? Perhaps you've watched a member of your family, a friend, a neighbor decline with the disease. In our own parish family, several members have died from Alzheimer's within the last five years and member's parents or grandparents have been victims of it.
You can help raise funds for research and help local families cope with the disease by making a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association 2014 Walk to end Alzheimer's. To help you do this there will be a table in the parish hall this Sunday, Nov. 2 and Sunday, Nov. 9. Plan to sign up to walk and donate.
The Walk is Saturday, Nov. 15 at Fleischman Park, Naples, just south of Coastland Mall. Registration is at 9 a.m., the two mile walk at 10 a.m. Plan to participate with others from St. Mark's. Ask family and friends to add to your donation and to participate in the walk. With your help we can provide research funds to stop this devastating disease. Contributions can be made online by going to act.alz.org/Collier to register. Please join the Marco Spirit team with your donation so we can win the team competition.

RV Adventures - David and Susan Darrow
We spent the month of September in Wisconsin and Michigan, visiting Door County and the Traverse City area, including Sleeping Bear Dunes National Shoreline. We visited several friends from Marco, including the Walsh's in Kohler, WI and the Doyle's in Whitehall, MI (after taking the Ferry from
Manitowoc to Ludington). They were both great hosts and we had a lot of fun.
We also visited the Grand Rapids area and attended ArtPrize - a wonderful 2-week art show that has displays all over the city. We have had a few mis-adventures along the way, including hitting a deer with the Mini Cooper, a broken furnace in cold Michigan, and some electrical problems. But we have enjoyed both the adventures and misadventures, and beautiful scenery and visits with good friends.
Last week was spent in Asheville, NC visiting family, hiking and generally relishing the autumn colors in all their glory. I guess we were getting a little weary of all the moves, so we are now in Hilton Head Island for 20 days before heading to Charleston and then back to FL.
We traveled on many of the Sundays in the last two months, but last week we attended Grace Church in Asheville. Beautiful stone church build in 1905. This week we attended All Saints Episcopal Church in Hilton Head. It is one of 7 SC Episcopal Churches that did not withdraw from The Episcopal Church of the USA along with their Bishop in 2012 (and are now a part of the Global Fellowship of Confessing Anglicans). It was very interesting to hear how devastating it was to the churches that decided to remain a part of the Episcopal Church of the USA and what is was like to lose their Diocese, Diocesan Counsel and support of Diocesan ministries. But this church was not struggling - in fact the church was full and they were celebrating the kickoff of their Vision Quest - a combined Annual and Capital Campaign. Their presentation during the sermon involved many volunteers and clearly explained what their goals were and how their congregation and ministries would be "More than you can imagine." It was a great presentation and very inspiring considering what has been going on in SC over the past two years.
Here are a few pictures from our recent adventures. We look forward to returning to our favorite church, St. Mark's, in December!

Camp Jeffery Volunteers Needed!
Camp Jeffrey was created for people with developmental differences. For two hours (3-5PM) each Monday during the school year, we provide an encouraging sensory friendly environment that allows for a fun exploration of real life experiences. We build relationships with each person by gaining his or her interest and attention. We participate in games and activities that facilitate discovery of self and others. Through play and socialization we make available opportunities for insight and allow for creative expression. Volunteers are needed for this intimately holy ministry. Please contact Cheryl Mueller (394-2629) or Kyle if you are interested in profound joy and sharing your gifts.

FellowshipLuck Has a New Name and a New Look.......
Worship2....
Gather in the Parish Hall for coffee or juice
A "Welcome" time after each worship service with an emphasis on welcoming new members, guests, and old friends to St. Mark's and letting them feel at home
Have you noticed how much we are growing here at St. Mark's? We have a lot of new faces, new ministries and activities for you to participate in. Our response to growing is one of pure joy. This has us asking: "are we adjusting to the growth with new and innovative ways?"
The women of St. Mark's (ECW) have re-imagine our hospitality at St. Mark's after the worship services on Sunday. We will continue to join everyone in the Fellowship Hall for coffee or juice and a cookie or snack but the emphasis will be more on welcoming and fellowship and less on food. There will still be special Sundays where ministries will highlight what they do by hosting a special reception.
The ECW will continue to provide the beverages and the supplies but we really need you to sign-up to host. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board across from the kitchen. We have simplified the process. As Host you will be responsible for the logistics which include:
- Joyfully Setting-up serving table and beverage bar, make coffee, bring a snack (or set out one ECW has provided)
- Joyfully wash dishes, pick-up the kitchen and remove trash.
