Police Week and Peace Officers' Memorial Day
Today, May 15th, is National Peace Officers' Memorial Day. I signed a proclamation joining communities across the country recognizing May 10th - May 17th as National Police Week and May 15th at Peace Officers' Memorial Day. Today, the U.S. flag is flying at half-staff in honor of law enforcement officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and their families. Please join us in this recognition.

During National Police Week, I would also like to extend my gratitude to our officers who continue to protect and serve the Bonney Lake community. Thank you.

Building Safety Month: What's backflow?
The topic for week 2 of Building Safety Month is water safety. In Bonney Lake, backflow assemblies play an important role in water safety. It’s possible you’ve never had to learn what a backflow prevention system is – but you can think of it as a one way gate that allows water from the City’s water supply to flow into your home’s piping but stops water if and when it tries to flow backwards into the main water supply. Backflow assemblies are common in lawn irrigation systems, plumbing lines for filling pools, and soda machines.

So what’s the big deal? Preventing backflow protects our drinking water from contamination from sources like your dishwasher and pool. Clean water is important for all members of our community. Additionally, backflow assemblies play a role in keeping the water pressure in service delivery lines consistent which makes sure water flows from the tap.
