Letter asks Gov. Inslee to open local small businesses
With all the talk about the 'Stay Home, Stay Healthy' order and how it impacts our small business communities, I wanted to be clear why I felt it was important to have a joint letter with Sumner.

I completely agree with what Governor Inslee did in March and April to help flatten the curve and protect lives. Bonney Lake continues to follow the 'Stay Home, Stay Healthy' approach and will keep posting updates to the city's operations on our website.

As we entered the month of May, it had become obvious that local businesses were ready to open in a safe manner following all of the protocols published from our local and state health departments. Seeing all the larger big boxes stay open, it became clear that small businesses could also take appropriate steps to keep their customers safe.

Knowing what I had observed over the last couple months, the purpose of the joint letter was to ask the Governor to consider additional steps that could give our local businesses equal shots at surviving and the criteria about opening up should be made on specific data to our area.

The City of Sumner is a great partner and our communities are joined at the “hip”. We may have different plans for our cities, but the working relationship between organizations is key to uphold.

Business Spotlight: Java Angels Espresso
Happy 14 th Anniversary to Java Angels Espresso !

The name, Java Angels, came from wanting to be the little light in someone’s day and owner Jennifer Horne says there’s no better way to do that than to provide customers with a delicious drink and a friendly face.

This drive-through coffee shop, located at 18201 SR 410 E, has adapted to how they do business during the pandemic. While originally closing for three weeks, Java Angels is now back open with adjusted hours, contactless card readers, order and pay ahead service through the Joe App, and delivery service available through DoorDash.

When asked her favorite beverage on the menu, Jennifer had a tough time selecting one because of the wide array of options. She mostly switches between Cold Brew to Oat Milk Latte with cinnamon sprinkled on top but also enjoys the plant-based Lotus energy drinks.

Jennifer would like to thank the community for supporting Java Angels for the past 14 years, but even more so for the outpouring love and support after reopening a few weeks ago.

Make sure to stop by to order a drink or bakery item and say hello to their friendly baristas!

Community Spotlight
Mother's Day may have been a couple weeks ago, but this story is too wonderful not to share. The staff at Cedar Ridge by Bonaventure in Bonney Lake worked with families to organize a Mother's Day parade for residents. The joy on their faces seeing loved ones is incredibly heartwarming.
