WEEKLY WISDOM for MOTHERS

Don't hide your light!

You are the light of the world--like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:14, NLT

"Aren't you going to say anything son?" "No, Mom." "As long as he stays on his end of the apartment and I stay on my end, I' m not going to say a word."

This was my son's response when I asked if he was going to talk to his roommate about a problem that was occurring between them. But rather than addressing the issue, my son thought it best not to say anything to maintain the peace.

In his sermon on the mount, Jesus shares that Christians are to be a beacon of light in a dark world. As light, he challenges them to shine brightly before others so they can be drawn into a relationship with him. But instead of shining as light, believers can hide their light from others in a number of ways, according to a footnote in my Bible:

1) When they are quiet instead of speaking up
2) To go along with the crowd
3) By denying the light
4) By letting sin dim their light
5) By not explaining their light to others

Our children, no matter what their age, are called to  be lights for the world. So whatever situation your child(ren) is facing today, encourage them  not to hide their light, but to let it shine.

Sharing the journey,

Jeaninne
