Special Events: Dedication Sunday

Finance & Stewardship Corner

This Sunday, Nov 17, is Dedication Sunday for stewardship pledges for 2025. In arriving at your total donation for next year, we appreciate your prayerful consideration of financial support of RRPC's mission and operational activities. Pledge cards will be available Sunday in the Narthex, and you can mail or email your pledge if either are easier for you. If you have not completed the survey we developed, please do that soon so that our church directory information is correct and you receive information from us via your preferred method. Thank you!

Blessings to all,

GRACE ABOUNDS!!!

The theme of this year’s Stewardship Campaign is “Grace upon Grace”.

‘Grace’ is a term we hear often in church, yet its actual meaning was

unclear to us. So, we went to… the Internet!! Turns out grace, in the

Biblical sense, is defined as “undeserved favor”. WOW!! God showers

each of us with all kinds of good things that we did NOTHING TO

DESERVE. We try to practice gratitude, being thankful for daily blessings. But we often get bogged down in ‘stuff’, forgetting to step back to see the bigger picture.

In June, 2017 we spent a couple of weeks in Corrales at an extended family gathering at our daughter and son-in-law’s home. We had no definite plans to move to NM! Yet… we found a home in Rio Rancho, sold our Ohio home, & closed out our antique business, making five trips

cross-country until finally moving here in December 2017. The many steps

of this life-changing event unfolded in front of our eyes… GRACE!!

Finding RRPC was a similar experience. We were searching for a church

home and had never considered a Presbyterian church. Yet… from our

first visit we felt at home! We joined in spring 2018 and never looked back!

The generosity of RRPC members, in caring, giving and doing, is truly

remarkable. Time after time, folks step up to meet the needs of members

and the community in amazing and creative ways… GRACE!!

Because we are all human, we do experience difficulties. Yet… we are

certain that each of us can identify literally 100’s of ‘undeserved favors’ in

our lives, today and in years past. God is always hard at work for each of

us! So, let’s prayerfully consider how we can live our gratefulness through

our support for this year’s Stewardship Campaign.

Pastor to People

In some American history class I read about the first thing the Pilgrims did upon landing in New England. Together they built a church building and a jail. One

for grace and one for law, one for the Gospel and one for sinners (I suppose). They worked together on the two most important parts of their life together — their spiritual life and their civic life. They then began building their log cabins for their homes.

Even if this is an apocryphal story, I like it. (Maybe some of you historians in the congregation can tell me if this is an "urban legend"). It says something about our shared life together. How much we need to put our shoulders to the wheel and push together for a common cause. To prioritize our needs and jointly seek to address those needs. We are about to join in a common cause this Sunday —Dedication Sunday. Together we will pool our resources (our time, talent, and treasure) and present them to God as an act of gratitude. Our pledges are our way of expressing our thanksgiving for the goodness of God, the mercy of God, the call of God. It is a uniquely communal act not unlike building first a church then a jail (metaphorically speaking of course!) And it is a beautiful thing to join together in a communal act of commitment and love and devotion.

I really look forward to seeing all of you this Sunday — Dedication Sunday. Let's build something together at Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church with our faith, hope and love.

Peace and hope, Frank

Prayer Concerns

In the silence of the heart God speaks. If you face God in prayer and silence, God will speak to you. Then you will know that you are nothing. It is only when you realize your nothingness, your emptiness, that God can fill you with Himself. Souls of prayer are souls of great silence. ~Mother Teresa
