Pastor to People
Dear RRPC Family and Friends,
This coming Sunday February 15 we celebrate the Transfiguration of
the Lord Sunday. This amazing story is found in the three Synoptic Gospels (Matthew 17: 1-8; Mark 9: 2-8; Luke 9: 28-36). I invite you to read all three texts before this Sunday. (Incidentally, the Gospel of John does not record this experience, perhaps because Jesus is virtually "transfigured" before our eyes throughout that Gospel. See John 1: 14: "We beheld his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.")
I invite you to reflect on the transformative moments in your life. Moments when you saw things differently, when you felt differently, when the direction of your life changed. Can you remember when you first came to believe, really believe, deep in your heart that Jesus is your Lord and Savior? Perhaps that came suddenly, surprisingly. It did for me.
On the other hand, sometimes those moments are hurtful, like a car crash or a health crisis.
However, sometimes those moments "transfigure" your life for the better and you are never quite the same. We yearn for those types of moments. We pray that they may "revisit" us again. The old hymn says, "Revive us again!"
So this Sunday let's celebrate a pivotal moment in the life of Jesus and his
three friends atop that mountain. And may your life be "transformed" yet
again. May it be so. Amen.
Peace,
Frank

A Call to stand with the people of Cuba
Faithful solidarity in a time of crisis
More than a dozen faith-based organizations, including the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Cuba Partners Network of the PC(USA), have signed a letter urging policymakers and leaders to take steps to reduce hardships for ordinary people in Cuba and to reduce barriers that prevent communities from accessing food, medicine and basic necessities. The letter, being delivered to the White House and Congress, also calls on faith groups to speak out about the suffering of the Cuban people.
