Dear RRPC Family & Friends,
"If the way be clear" is Presbyterian lingo for "if such and such is approved."
So this Sunday, "if the way be clear" by our vote in the Congregational Meeting, we will ordain and install Betty Jarous as a deacon.
We are so grateful for Betty's willingness and eagerness to serve our congregation.
One of the ordination vows we take is that we promise to serve the Lord with
"energy, intelligence, imagination and love". I have often felt that this is one
of the most important vows we take during the ordination service. It means to give our heart and soul and mind to this task, to do it well and lovingly. Maybe during an ordination all of us should take this vow again, that we too will recommit to serving the Lord with everything that we have.
It is like a wedding ceremony where I sometimes ask those gathered to recommit to their own marriage vows-to love and be faithful to one another "in plenty and in want, in joy and in sorrow, in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live."
So this Sunday as we ordain and install Betty ("if the way be clear"), I invite all of you who have been ordained to recommit to your ordination vow to serve the Lord with "energy, intelligence, imagination and love."
And may God Bless all of us in the Lord's service!
Frank

Congregational Meeting
to Elect a New Deacon

We will have a brief Congregational Meeting at the beginning of our worship service to elect Betty Jarous as our newest deacon. If the way be clear, we will ordain and install her later in the service. Please plan to attend!

Donations and Stuff
From the Worship Committee:
We have noticed that some items have been apparently donated to the church and left in the worship closet behind the cross and in the banner closet in the library. We ask that anyone who has items they would like to give the church to please talk to Ginny about the items first so that she can pass the information to the appropriate committee. We have very little storage space and are not in need of additional items related to worship. Items related to worship (like banners and paraments) must be approved by the worship committee. Thanks for your assistance with this!

Come view an original
German Enigma cipher machine

3pm - 6pm

Calling all history buffs and computer nerds!
During World War II, a major allied effort was breaking the codes created by the Nazi’s Enigma machine. A team of British and American code breakers worked together on this secret operation at Bletchley Park, near London. Alan Turing, an English mathematician and cryptologist, played a key role in breaking the Enigma machine. He developed a computer-like devise that could find the keys needed to decipher messages. Dave Levenson’s father, Arthur Levenson, was on the team that worked with Alan Turing. He obtained an original German enigma machine, which is now Dave’s. He is pleased to show it, explain how it was used, answer questions, and even let you press the buttons and spin the rotors.
As a benefit for the stucco project, Dave (assisted by Margaret Crowl), will give a program on Saturday, June 27, 3 to 6 pm. The program will consist of
- Afternoon tea with light refreshments
-
Viewing of the award winning movie, The Imitation Game (2014) starring Benedict Cumberbatch, based on the Alan Turing story.
- Dave’s talk and demonstration of his Enigma machine.
Please note: So that everyone can have an “up close and personal” experience, attendance will be limited to twenty people. However, if there is sufficient interest, Dave will do a second presentation later this summer.
Suggested donation for the stucco project: $20 per person. Sign up on the clipboard in the narthex.

If you bring and leave anything in the kitchen, the fridge or freezer, please label it with your name, date, and who/what it is for. If left unlabeled, it might be thrown away. It is very helpful to know what each item is intended for. Thank you so much.
