Open Flower Dedication Dates

in August and September

The beautiful flowers in the Sanctuary every Sunday morning are prepared by members of our congregation who create an idea for the arrangements, shop for the flowers, cut fresh greenery from their yards (and their friend’s yards) and then bring all the materials to the flower room to make the final production.

We have a few openings in our Sunday flower dedication schedule - August 2, August 16, September 6, and September 27. If you would like to dedicate a Sunday floral arrangement in memory of or in honor of a loved one, please contact us at the church office at 706-543-4338 or through email at frontdesk@firstpresathens.org . The cost for floral arrangements is $150. Dedication slots are on a first come, first served basis.

Thanks so much for your continued support of the flower ministry of FPC.

Stained-glass Window

Moses Waddel Room

The stained-glass window is a gift from the family of Robyn McDonald and her office colleagues, Mary Zorn Bates, Aubrey Brannen, Jessie Greene, Judy Salmon, and Tina Tinsley.

The window is a panel of the larger Dean Family stained-glass window from the older First Presbyterian Church, Gainesville, GA, which was removed and returned to the Dean family when that church building was rased upon completion of construction of the new church. Robyn and Jim were married in the older church building in December of 1973. Robyn’s paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Helen Dean.

The framed and lighted stained-glass window reminds all who are present that they are in a holy place. And, they remember God’s promise that when two or more are gathered in Jesus’ name, God is present also.

Summer Choir

Sundays at 9:15 a.m.

Summer Choir – through August 16, we invite anyone interested to join us for Summer Choir. We will meet in the choir room at 9:15 a.m. on Sundays to rehearse music for that morning’s service. Our Chancel Choir will be the foundation of this group.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to the sing in the choir, but have never done so, this may be a chance to give choir a “test drive.” If you would like to sing but can’t make the commitment to Wednesday night rehearsals during the regular season, this is the time to join the choir. Singers may join for any single Sunday or for as many as they wish, even for the whole summer. There is no obligation, but we do hope some will decide they enjoy singing in the choir enough to continue in the fall. Although this choir is made up mostly of adults, youth and children are also welcome. For more information, contact John Coble at jcoble@firstpresathens.org
