Pentecost - Wear Red!
|
Join us this Sunday at 10:00 a.m. as Dr. Ryan Baer will preach a sermon entitled, No Longer Strangers. The scripture lessons for this week are John 14:16-17 and Ephesians 1:3-14.
At the service, the Chancel Choir will sing Gracious Spirit, Dwell with Me, by K. Lee Scott, as the offertory anthem.
Pentecost, the birthday of the church, falls seven weeks after Easter (50 days). Pentecost celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, the giver and renewer of life, who instills our faith and enables us to follow Jesus Christ. Symbols of Pentecost include the dove plus those derived from the story in Acts 2: wind, fire, and the color red for flames.
You can follow the livestream of the service on Facebook or YouTube. For instructions to follow livestream through Facebook or YouTube, click here. Find the text and audio from previous weeks' sermons, along with a copy of the bulletin, here.

Sunday Conversations with Dr. Baer Returns in June
|
During the first three Sundays in June, all are invited to join Dr. Baer in the Moses Waddel Room following the morning worship service for Sunday Conversations from 11:15-12 noon. This is an opportunity to connect with others, dig deeper on the themes of the morning worship service, and to talk about matters of faith and life. Sunday, June 5, Dr. Baer will lead a discussion titled “A Seat at the Table – The ‘Why’ of Matthew 25.”

Good Shepherd Summer Club
May 2022 Mini Mission Project
|
Summertime is here which means it's time to gather our First Pres Children's Ministry Good Shepherd Summer Club and begin our important mini mission work! We have many wonderful mini mission projects planned for this summer and first up is our $10 Chick-fil-A Gift Card Collection!
We would like to help start the summer in a fun way for our next door neighbors, the children of Bethel Neighborhood. These sweet children absolutely loved receiving their very own Chick-fil-A gift cards last summer so we definitely want to repeat this mini mission project again this summer.
Please pick up a $10 Chick-fil-A Gift Card and drop it by the church. You may also make a monetary donation to the church and we will purchase the cards for you. Please mail your check to the church office, or go to our website firstpresathens.org/give (please select “General Fund” under “Select a Fund,” and in the optional memo write “Chick-fil-A gift cards”). Please bring or mail in donations by Sunday, June 12.
Thank you for supporting our First Pres kiddos and helping our
Good Shepherd Summer Club share God's love with others this summer!

We have had several changes in Stephen Minister leadership as of late. First, we bid Carol Strickland a fond farewell as she retired from her Associate Pastor (and Stephen Leader) role at FPC. Also, Dawn and Bob Frisch have retired from their roles as Stephen Leaders to afford them more time to spend with family. These are three of the four founding members of the Stephen Ministry program at FPC (Larry Gray, who retired previously, is the fourth). We are so grateful for their role in getting the program to our church and for their continued support. We will miss them.
We welcome Susan Boatwright and Becky Hartman to their new roles as Stephen Leaders. They will be formally trained over the summer and be commissioned in the fall. Thank you to Susan and Becky for your willingness to serve as new leaders.
Thanks to all of you for giving of your time and talent to grow Stephen Ministry at FPC!
Our current Stephen Leaders are:

For several years now our church has supported a program called Ride Share. In a large congregation such as ours, there will be people from time to time who need transportation to get to Sunday School, Sunday services, Wednesday Supper, Week Day Bible Study, and even a doctor’s appointment occasionally. If you are able to provide transportation from time to time for a parishioner, please contact Madeline Van Dyck at madelinevandyck@gmail.com or 706-714-7600 or contact the church office at frontdesk@firstpresathens.org or 706-543-4338.
