September Outreach:

HUSD Feed the Hungry Kids

This program is for all children in our school district. Bags filled with food items are distributed each Friday during the school year to the children who otherwise would not have anything to eat over the weekend. Currently the program hands out over 240 bags each week.

What kinds of food are included in the bags?

  • a loaf of bread
  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • fruit snack cups
  • ramen noodles
  • individual cereal packs
  • a can of tuna
  • ravioli
  • spaghetti O’s
  • an apple, orange or raisins

Bags are filled on Friday morning and then taken to the schools to be given to the students to take home. Money donations make it possible for them to buy specific items they need, but our food donations are also greatly appreciated. They are especially in need of canned vegetables right now! You can start bringing food donations after this coming Sunday.

Reaching Out

The Outreach Ministry Team and the special event team of Nancy Smith and Lora Lee Nye are meeting during the Outreach team regular meeting time next Monday, September 12, at 9am. They are working on the plans for the 30th Anniversary celebration of the chartering of Emmanuel Lutheran as a congregation of the ELCA (September 23). See Nancy Smith if you have ideas!

Keep reading to learn about some things in the works!

Celebration Sunday, September 18 There will be a 10am worship service followed by a catered luncheon. The service and lunch will be in the sanctuary with rented round tables and tablecloths. Bring your favorite dessert for a dessert potluck!

Here's An Idea! What if everyone who was able made a $30 contribution (or multiples of 30) to the Emmanuel Lutheran Endowment Fund? What a great way to honor the occasion of the 30th Anniversary and to help Emmanuel to grow our Endowment Fund for many years of service to our community to come!

God’s Work. Our Hands. Celebrated for a month: Sunday, September 11 – October 9, with many activities suggested. Here are just a few:

  • singing at nursing homes
  • giving goodie baskets to nurse’s stations in hospitals
  • cleaning our Adopted Road, Civic Drive
  • sprucing up the church including washing the windows
  • providing lunches for Habitat for Humanity builds
  • working on a project at our adopted school, Liberty Traditional

Part of our GOD’S WORK, OUR HANDS project will be taking baskets of “goodies” to the nurse’s stations at our two hospitals. Your contribution of PREWRAPPED protein bars, trail mixes, nuts, cookies, crackers, chips etc. would be greatly appreciated. NO FRESH FRUITS. That will be done the day of distribution. There is a collection box in the narthex to put your donations in by September 26, 2022.  Questions: Call Cathy N. at 928-800-1168 or Sally N. at 928-772-0634

We are collecting a list of all the ways that Emmanuelites serve our neighbors. Do you volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, the Prescott Valley Food BankPeople Who CareMeals on Wheels, at one of our hospitals or at our local library or some other volunteer opportunity?

Send an email to the church office or let Pr. Tricia know as you are leaving worship, so we can create a list of some of the ways that the members of Emmanuel are showing love for our neighbors in our community! I’ve gotten several—keep them coming!

COVID News

The current CDC guidelines suggest that everyone now wear masks inside during the summer spike of Covid-19. Our mask wearing criteria has been a positivity rate above 5%, and this past week the rate has gone down to 8.8% (now in the lower risk range).

Please continue to wear a mask if you are at high risk or are protecting a loved one who is and stay home if you are feeling unwell.

We will continue with our other pandemic protocols, like checking in at the welcome table before worship.

Our next Interfaith meal is Friday, September 12, with a sit-down meal in the Fellowship Hall as well as curbside pick-up. Set up, serving, bussing and washing dishes, and clean up help is needed for each meal on Friday mornings and meal prep on Thursdays. Please let Mary know if you can be available to assist.

Are you a Thrivent member? If so, please consider using your Community Action Cards to help with the cost of these meals. Click on the picture to visit the Thrivent website!

Have you taken a few minutes to fill out the Non-Discrimination Survey put forward by local LBGTQI+ supporters?

The survey will be used to gather information to be given to the Prescott City Council in support of the adoption of a nondiscrimination ordinance. Twelve Arizona cities have already approved such an ordinance. Please help by clicking "Read More" to take the survey.

Summertime!

We know that many folks are busy travelling this summer and early fall. Don’t forget to drop off or mail in your offering or pledge before you go! Summer often is a time of decreased giving, but we still need to keep the lights and the AC on!

Have a blessed Labor Day weekend everyone! Here is Taryn Harbridge, violin, playing “I Will Wait For You (Psalm 130)”.

Send us pictures of your trip!

This one was taken by Tracy Hewelt from her recent hiking trip to Lake Moraine and Lake Louise in Banff and Grinnell Glacier in Glacier National Park.
