Thursday, September 11@ 7:00 - 8:00pm: Restoring Harmony with God’s Creation Through Landscaping

• Learn about why and how to choose native plants, remove non-native invasive species, and create healthier wildlife habitats, so that we can help restore harmony with God’s creation.
• Learn also about a related resolution that was passed at the UMC General Conference in May 2024.

Thursday, September 18 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm: Eco-Mission: Serving All Creation

• Genesis 2:15 reads, “The Lord God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it.” What might this kind of stewardship look like?
• What if we went on a mission trip that focused on serving God’s creation through restoring ecosystems? What difference would it make to bring health back to wetlands, streambeds, forests, and other natural areas?
• Join us to consider how our church might be part of taking care of creation for the good of all life.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 9:30AM: SEASON OF CREATION FIELD TRIP!

• Meet at the church at 9:30. We'll take the van over to the:
• Person County Harvest Market at Palace Pointe where we'll have the opportunity to purchase fresh local produce and baked goods while listening to live music and enjoying family activities.
• By 11, we will drive over to Susan and Patrick's house for a brief tour of their Certified Wildlife Habitat, solar installation, and registered Monarch Waystation while enjoying fresh-baked cookies and delicious lemonade!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 6:30-8:30PM CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

• All are invited to attend, and committee members are encouraged to attend!
• Committee chairs make up the Church Council and should attend if at all possible. • Learn about how extreme weather and shifting weather patterns affect lives and health in North Carolina, along with some realistic and practical ways that communities, families, and individuals can protect their own health and that of others in our local communities and state.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 10:00AM ON: ST. FRANCIS FEAST DAY AND BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS AND LAND!

• Bring a photo or memento of your favorite animal or something from your land/yard for Pastor Rod to bless during worship.
• Everyone is invited to prepare a dish to share at the Covered Dish Feast after Worship. (Consider making something using local produce or locally-sourced meat!)
• Susan will share briefly about her Earthkeepers project and the important role that Mt. Tirzah UMC is playing in it.

• Purchasing Guide for regenerative agriculture, which is food and animal products raised with the least amount of harm to God's Creation. It can cost more but if you can do it, it has a huge impact. Many products are available at the grocery store.
• Repair Cafe helps you repair common household items in a fun environment while bringing together people to share skills and solve problems. Furniture • Electrical Appliances • Toys • Jewelry • Electronics • Clothing • Tools • Lamps • Clocks • And Much More
• Mt. Sylvan wants your compostables!
• Take your styrofoam to First-Elon for recycling into building materials!
• Take your plastic wrap to Bethany for recycling into park benches!
• Green Star Recycling, located at 109 Oxford Rd. (Hwy 158), wants your metal! They are open Monday through Friday, 9-4, for drop-offs.
• The Scrap Exchange in Durham takes all kinds of things, including craft supplies, packing peanuts, and bubble wrap! Click HERE for more details!
• Recycle textiles! Old socks, shirts, anything that can't be donated that is made of textiles can be stuffed into a bag, purchased at this site, and recycled. Click HERE for details! (I vetted it. It is legit.)
• Recycle Christmas lights at Lowes!
