Weekly e-Epistle

When you arrive on Sunday morning, you’ll notice something a bit different in the sanctuary. The lights will be off, and there will be no opening processional. This is an attempt to mimic what we called last week the “Easter surprise.” At the appointed time, our customary prelude anthem will be sung, and then the choir will begin with the words, “Christians, to the Paschal victim offer your thankful praises!”
A new fire will be kindled, and we will light the Paschal Candle for the first time this season from that new fire. The candle represents the light in the darkness and Christ’s victory over death, and it will burn for the fifty days of the Easter season. Immediately after this, the lights will come on, the candles will be lit, and we will join in singing our opening hymn. You are invited and encouraged to bring a noisemaker of any kind to ring throughout the refrain of our opening hymn.
Again, it’s difficult to be “surprised” on Easter Sunday because we know how the story ends. However, don’t let knowing the end of the story spoil the power of this proclamation and the hope that comes with Christ’s victory over death.

Prayer List Update
The Easter season is a time of rebirth and renewal. To this end we will be refreshing our prayer list on the Second Sunday of Easter. This means that the prayer list will be brand new, so if you’d like to add someone to the list, please call the Parish Office the week following our Easter celebration. Names will remain on the prayer list for three weeks, and if you’d like to add someone back after this three week period, please let us know. If you have a good news of healing to share for someone we’ve been praying for, please do share, and we would be happy to highlight that good news.
Please note that this does not preclude the ongoing ministry of our Prayer Team. They will continue to hold up and repeat our prayer list in their own prayers, and if you have an immediate need for them, we invite you to email your prayer needs and request to Carolyn Mack at cdmack37@gmail.com or call 302-565-8675.

Good Friday at St. James’ - March 29th at Noon
On Friday, March 29th, St. James’ will host the Mill Creek Ministerium Good Friday Service at noon. This service includes meditations on the Seven Last Words of Jesus from the cross; hymns and anthems led by a combined choir; and a reading of the Passion according to John’s Gospel.
The nature of the service allows for people to come and go, if necessary, if you are unable to join us for the full offering. Following the service there will be a brief reception with the traditional offering of fresh hot cross buns in the Great Hall of the Parish House.

St. James' Mission and Outreach updates
Sharing God’s gifts with others
Reaching out to those in need
And serving them with dignity and respect…
New Castle County HOPE Center-for Individuals and Families in need of temporary housing and support services.
What started as temporary housing during the cold weather of 2020-2021 has grown into a permanent center that provides housing and support services for individuals and families who are without adequate housing in New Castle County. New Castle County (NCC) purchased the former Sheraton Hotel on Airport Rd (now named the New Castle County HOPE Center) and kept the hotel management staff to keep the facility running. Working together, many non-profit organizations including Family Promise provide various services and support for individuals and families to obtain emergency and more significant housing and medical, psychological, and job skills opportunities as well. The hotel can accommodate 400 and suites and adjoining rooms are given to families and enable households to stay together. Housing is coordinated through the Delaware Housing Alliance.
If you know of anyone who needs this housing, please ask them to call 1-833-FIND-BED (1-833-3463-233) and leave a message.

“Blessful” Meditations
We all know that life can be a little stressful and hectic sometimes. We hope that by reading this short bible passage and watching a relaxing video will help you take a moment and reflect on God’s gifts.
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

A Prayer for Easter Day
Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord’s resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
