Reaching out to those in need this holiday season

In our St. James’ tradition, we ask you to consider how you might brighten someone’s holiday. 2020 has taken a toll on so many, especially the elderly, those with limited finances, and those without homes. Due to the Coronavirus, we need to make a few changes in how we answer that need. Please consider if either or both opportunities for giving might fit in your holiday giving plans this year:

Adopt-a-Family

Nursing homes have been especially hard hit during this pandemic. As part of safety protocol, most residents are not able to have visitors and are confined to their rooms or wings of their residence. Adopt-a-Family has asked us to “adopt” 20 individuals of the Brandywine Nursing Home and who are without family. Our donations will go to individual gift cards.
Please send your contribution in the form of a check to the St. James’ parish office:
St. James’ Church
Attn: Adopt-a-Family
2106 St. James’ Church Road
Wilmington, DE 19808
(please mark: Adopt-a-Family in your check memo.)
Deadline for contributions: Monday, December 7th.

Emmanuel Dining Room

Warm socks, gloves, and hats are needed for the winter season. While the majority of our guests are adults, we do have many children during the holiday season. So, all sizes are appreciated!

We’ll be setting up dates during the weeks of December 7 and 14 for “contactless drop off” for your donations of socks/gloves/hats at the parish hall parking lot. Due to Covid guidelines, we ask that you please do not drop off your donations at the parish hall or church. More information and dates will be provided in future e-Epistles and church announcements.

Thank you for considering these requests and helping make someone’s Christmas a bit brighter.

More information and dates will be provided in next week's e-Epistles and church announcements.

The 236th Annual Diocesan Convention, held this past weekend, was an amazing accomplishment and feat of technology--sharing information on the many good things going on around our diocese and included a virtual Eucharist with special musical offerings.

One special offering was the sequence hymn featuring the beautiful Hymn 178 with Dana Garcia, Ken Weichart, and Keith St. John (our St. James trio) along with Fr. Jim Bimbi (playing his guitar) and Jon Rania (All Saints Rehoboth and Saint George's Harbeson).

The audio portion was shared at the beginning of the St. James’ virtual service this past Sunday, November 22, 2020.

A Prayer for the First Sunday in Advent

Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
