Labor Day Trivia

The first Labor Day celebration, a parade with 10,000 workers, was held in which city on September 5, 1882?

Which state was the first to make Labor Day an official holiday in 1887?

Which President signed Labor Day into law as a federal holiday on June 28, 1894?

The Church office will be closed for Labor Day, 9/1/2025.

Have a safe and fun 'unofficial end of summer!'

St. Vincent de Paul

There are 12 spots open for volunteers to serve at St. Vincent de Paul on Sun., Sept. 7th. Please consider serving one time or every month with an amazing team at this rewarding opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus! A group goes to the Phoenix dining room located at 1300 W. Harrison St., Phoenix 85007, and they prep and serve, then clean up after the noon meal on the first Sunday of every month. Bring your spouse, a teen who needs service hours, or a friend, and make new friends who have a heart to serve!

After you register, you will receive an email from Luann Helepololei (Lch03@aol.com) with the gate code to enter the SVdP parking lot, and any other instructions you may need. However, if you would like to ride with someone who is leaving from the church after the 8am service, please let Luann know.

Baptism Orientation

Baptism is a free gift of God in which He brings us into a relationship with Himself and makes us a part of His family! In the Lutheran Church, baptism is a sacrament.

We welcome your child or any adult who wishes to be baptized. Have your questions answered at the next orientation on Sunday, September 14 at 9:15am in the Conference Room of the Church office, facilitated by Don Burgess. Free childcare is available.

Christian Fiction Book Club

Brunch – Books – Fellowship! Who knew reading a captivating book and discussing it with girlfriends could be so therapeutic?

Christian Fiction book club was begun in 1992. We read fiction books, all by Christian authors, with themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the power of unexpected connections, to name just a few.

Our service projects support the efforts of the Care & Concern outreach, handmade pillowcase dresses for Mexico and Africa mission trips, and donations of used books shipped to Veterans, military families and deployed soldiers.

Here is our reading list through the end of 2025:

September 17 The Last Year of the War by Susan Meissner

October 15 Whose Waves These Are by Amanda Dykes

November 19 Christmas at Carnton by Tamera Alexander

For more information, email Susan Hughes.

Stephen Ministry

God does not intend for us to struggle alone. Stephen Ministry cares for people facing tough times.

To become a Stephen Minister, you will attend classes at La Casa de Cristo on Monday evenings beginning on October 13th from 6:00-7:30pm.

Or, if you are in need of a someone to help you through adjusting to a change in marital status, a serious illness, the death of a loved one, a recent move, or just experiencing a lonely or difficult time, consider allowing a Stephen Minister to walk with you on your journey to wholeness.

Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry. The identity of those receiving care or what takes place in each caring relationship remains private.

Contact Linda Barber at 623-256-1308 to find out more about Stephen Ministry classes or receiving care.
