Veterans Ministry

The mission of La Casa de Cristo’s Veterans Ministry is to recognize, honor, support, and serve our veterans, their families, and friends while offering fellowship and providing resources, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Our goal is to connect with all veterans as well as active duty military and their families, and those with a heart to support them. We strive to connect veterans, and honor and support each other with compassion and understanding. We meet weekly on Tuesday mornings for coffee ops at OEB Diner in Scottsdale.

Jim Jimieson and Linda Smith led this group for many years, along with their dedicated Board of Directors, and we thank them for all the work they put in to arranging for speakers every month and planning each event with such care. They have passed the baton to Greg Stenberg (who founded the Veterans Ministry in 2018) and Kathryn Ellefsen, who will, together, carry on the work of this wonderful ministry. All are invited to the monthly Veterans Ministry breakfast and presentation given by a member of the armed forces, taking place 8 months of the year. In addition to breakfast, veterans may visit the Veterans table to speak with experts for information and obtain helpful resources. Filled Eggs Are Still Needed for the

Easter Egg Hunt

To make the Easter Egg hunt a success, we need donations of plastic eggs filled with candy (no chocolate, please) and/or small toys. Please tape them shut and drop the eggs off at services or at the office Monday - Friday 9am - 4pm. Thank you for your generosity! Don't forget to invite family and friends to this free event on Sat., March 28 at 10am. Volunteer to help here.

Minutes of LCdC's Board of Trustees

On February 28th, the Board got together on the La Casa campus for a meeting and retreat. Here are the highlights of our time together.

• The Treasurer discussed the 2026 budget and reviewed follow-up recommendations from the compilation report.
• Ongoing discussion regarding the objectives and plans for the Next Steps appeal.
• Discussion of LCDC Constitution and Bylaws requirements for Nominating Committee members, Board Members and congregational meetings.

The Board sponsored a staff appreciation lunch on Monday, March 2nd.

What word is never said or sung during Lent?

Alleluia. You may notice a change in the liturgy during the season of Lent. That is because we generally do not speak or sing Alleluias during this solemn season as we journey to the cross of Christ. In a sense, the “Alleluia” has been buried. But fear not, it will be resurrected again on Easter morning! (To be sure, however, the giving up of the Alleluia during Lent is a tradition, not a law. It’s perfectly fine if we say it. There is no need to worry if an Alleluia slips out in either word or song.)
