Apocalyse Now? The Book of Daniel

Bible Study

The Book of Daniel is more than the story of the lion's den! This book of scripture describes the activities and visions of Daniel, an elite Jew exiled in Babylon. It is a book that is classified by biblical scholars as apocalyptic literature. It is a book that does outline future cosmic and political upheaval.

What does this book mean in the ancient context? What has it meant through the ages? Does Daniel apply to us today in a time of great division and strife?

Come join Pastor Jeff Ruby as he leads this class on:

  • Wednesday evenings, beginning Sept. 18 at 6:30pm or
  • Thursday mornings, beginning Sept. 19 at 10am,

all in the Gathering Place. Sign up here.

Prior to Wednesday evening Bible Study with Pastor Jeff, Wednesday dinners will be served at 5:45pm in the Gathering Place. Please help set up, prepare and serve dinner, and clean up by volunteering here.

Organ Recital with Dr. Jeremy Peterman

How do you prepare for an organ recital when you’ve fractured a bone in your knee and have completely torn your ACL? When that happened on July 14th, my first instinct was to cancel my recital and even hire a substitute for a couple weekends for services. While at VBX all week, Reese Clark and a number of other volunteers encouraged me and even listened to me play right-foot only until it seemed I had created a convincing 2-foot pedal sound with only my right foot…and that’s the way I played for two weekends. On the third weekend and still on the verge of canceling my recital, my left leg/foot seemed to free up and I was able to play with both feet.

So, with your prayers and God’s uplifting touch, I will keep my organ recital on the books for Friday, Sept. 20 at 7pm in the Sanctuary. It’s called “Organic Matter” and will feature all things “organic.” Make what you will of that! See you there.

Food Bank Needs

You all outdid yourselves!! Costco's shelves are empty and the PV Community Food Bank's shelves are full! Once again, our very generous congregation has crushed the Mac 'n Cheese challenge and brought in 14,166 boxes of the very popular cheesy, delicious comfort food, which is more than 1,400 over last year's total!

The needs of the food bank are ongoing, and the needs are not always food, as you know. The item for the month of September is cold cereal, and, for the month of October, it's toilet paper. We are grateful for ANY and all donations, but please remember, no glass jars.

Want to volunteer to bring the donations from La Casa de Cristo to the food bank at 32nd St. and Shea? Deliveries are done any day from Mon. through Fri., 9am-3pm. You choose the day and time that works for you. Help is available to load your car at the church and unload at the food bank. Sign up here or call the office to get on the schedule. 480-948-1234

Thank you for your willingness to serve!
