Watch This TEDx Talk Recommended by DCD's SEED Group
SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) is a year-long series of conversations about issues of inclusion, tolerance, and diversity in which DCD faculty and staff are participating.  The video, titled "The Windows and Mirrors of Your Child's Bookshelf," considers how the books children read set a path for realizing their own self-worth as well as for how they see others. The speaker is Grace Lin, a children's book author/illustrator, who wrote the Newberry Award-winning book "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon."

Children Are Getting Ready to Trim the Gym!
Preparations have begun for everyone's favorite DCD holiday tradition, "Trim the Gym," which takes place the day before the Holiday Assembly and is attended by all students and faculty at DCD.  For one hour on this magical afternoon, the DCD community comes together and transforms the Rand Gym into a winter wonderland! Children create decorations celebrating the winter season and holidays-Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa-covering the giant evergreen tree from top to bottom. They also staple paper chains together to make a long garland that wraps around the room, all while singing winter songs with our music teacher Ms. Scheibe. (Please note: unless you are volunteering at the event, please pick up your child at the normal time during carpool.) Parents will enjoy seeing their handiwork displayed at the Holiday Assembly on Friday, December 14, at 9:00 a.m.
Recycle Your Old Shirts
Mr. Clifford is looking for any worn-out men's shirts in size medium or large to take on a second life as smocks for working in the woodshop. Please drop them off with Mr. Clifford in the woodshop.

Season's Readings
From my archives...
One of my favorite Hanukkah books that was published in 2015 is the picture book version of  The Parakeet Named Dreidel (Farrar Straus Giroux). Suzanne Raphael Berkson has illustrated Isaac Bashevis Singer's short story to introduce it to today's young readers.
