Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

From the Interim

Dear members and friends of Trinity:

I have had the privilege of serving as your Interim Priest-in-Charge since September. This Sunday, June 28, will be my last day in that role. My departure coincides with an intense time for your Vestry as they interview candidates for the position of Rector. If all goes well, you will have new and settled clergy leadership by this coming September, if not before.
Your first-rate lay leadership and gifted paid staff will guide you through the summer months. The next Rector will find them to be superb partners in ministry. He or she will also find you, the congregation gathered in the name of the Trinity in Hartford, to be faithful, supportive and questing as together you seek to be Christ's presence in the world. During this time of national self-examination over our nation's racist roots, the COVID-19 pandemic and the reality of massive unemployment, the ministry you will share with your new Rector will be crucial in the life of Hartford, the greater region and beyond.

I thank you for welcoming my ministry among you. As Elizabeth and I move to Rhode Island, where I will take up retirement again, I will bring with me many warm memories. I thank God for the opportunity be with you.

Many blessings,

Norman

TRINITY IS MOVING FORWARD !

The Task Force for Re-Gathering is moving us into the next phase as we begin the process of returning to our spiritual home at 120 Sigourney Street. The Memorial Garden has now been opened for two weeks at the regularly sta ff ed hours of 9:00 - 1100 am Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will continue through the summer, weather permitting.

Beginning Sunday, July 19th, our regular 8:00 Memorial Garden service will resume (weather permitting). This will be followed by our 10:00 Zoom service and the delightful virtual co ff ee hour afterward. This will continue throughout the summer.

On July 26th the 8:00 service will be enhanced by open windows and organ support from Jackson Merrill. The service will be concluded by a postlude at which point parishioners may elect to go into the Nave to listen to the postlude, all the while maintaining appropriate social distancing. The 10:00 Zoom service will proceed as usual, except that Jackson will be at the console throughout the service, with a computer dedicated to him!

The Trinity O ffi ce will continue to operate under the prudent guidance of Barbara Roos. Following the protocols of many o ffi ces, much of the work is being accomplished remotely The o ffi ce itself is open to sta ff and volunteers only on a pre-arranged schedule. All other visits to the campus are to be cleared in advance through Barbara.

We are assessing the needs of the 12 Step Programs whose very existence has been dependent on our hospitality, and exploring ways in which these may re-incorporated into our life in a safe and secure way.

We're moving forward in another important way too: this weekend, the Vestry is conducting final interviews with candidates to be our next Rector. Stay tuned - we expect to have good news to share in the next few weeks!

Trinity Garden Bee House

We now have a bee house in the Memorial Garden at Trinity. It will help support the pollinator project in the Asylum St. area. This was a gift from Jim and Heather Kramer. Jim builds these houses and hotels as well as bat houses. Thank you to Jim and Heather!

Worship in the Garden, July 19th

8 AM In-Person Spoken Morning Prayer

In the next step of our phased re-gathering of the congregation at the Campus of Trinity Church, in-person worship will begin again, weather permitting, on Sunday, July 19th, at 8 AM in the Memorial Garden, and continuing on the following Sundays.

Social distancing will be practiced.  Masks will be required of all participants.  If you cannot or will not wear a face covering, you are welcome as always to join our Zoom service on-line at 10 AM.  All participants are asked to enter through the Garden Gate on Sigourney St., just north of the Bell Tower.  The church buildings will not be open.  In the event of rain, the service will be cancelled.  Any cancellation will be announced through email and posted on the church website.

Following the guidance of our CT government and bishops, and the best available guidance from the CDC and from national church music organizations, there will be no singing.  Morning Prayer is, of course, a non-eucharistic service.  There will be no passing of the peace, or personal greetings before or after the service.  People who do not live together will be seated at least six feet apart.

These restrictions are put in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.  Many have expressed a deep desire to gather with friends in this sacred place, even under these conditions.  Others have expressed an unwillingness to return to in-person worship even with these precautions.

Our process of regathering continues.  It is our hope as summer turns to fall, as a new rector eventually joins us, and, God willing, as the number of cases of Covid-19 continue to decline, to be able to hold weekly services in the Nave, with live-streaming and Zoom options available to those who need or prefer them.  But we'll begin next month with this small yet momentous step.

Please keep the date and time in mind.  Whether you plan to join us in person or not, the congregation and its worship leaders ask your prayers and support.  And we thank you for your patience, your kindness, and your faithfulness in these unprecedented times.

A Special Message from Trinity Academy

What Matters to
Trinity Academy

Each morning, Trinity starts its school day with the 40 bright and happy faces of our amazing students, either in person or virtually. They are the faces of hope and promise. Our mission is to help change the cycle of inner city poverty through intensive academics, enrichment, nurture, and empowerment. We share this mission with our local affiliated NativityMiguel middle schools, Grace Academy and Covenant Preparatory School. Together we work to ensure these values for our students and alums. So far, we have shown great success.

With the overwhelming majority of our students identifying as Black, the past month has caused all of us to question how ready our world is to allow our stars to go off into it and flourish. We have always seen our students going forward into a promising future, but understand that there continue to be systemic restrictions and biases. May this time of upheaval be a wake-up call to these devastating truths, and allow for real change to happen.

As Trinity Academy approaches its seventh year as an elementary school, we hold true to our mission and continue to educate our students in ways that will empower them, not silence them. Please help us continue to make the future that much brighter and promising for our students, and keep the positive momentum going in support of the BlackLivesMatter movement. Together, true change happens!

Sincerely,

Allison Bernhard

 Bible Study via Zoom,
Tuesdays at 5:15 PM

Dear Everyone ~

Thank you to all who responded!

We meet on Tuesdays, at 5:15 pm. There is room for more at our Trinity Bible study through Zoom!

We will meet on Tuesday, June 2 at 5:15 pm. There is room for more at our Trinity Bible study through Zoom!

We will use a cool approach created by folks at Yale specifically for parishes, and requiring no previous academic study. You can check it out at www.yalebiblestudy.org . (Please do! It's pretty interesting.) Each meeting starts with a conversational introduction to the subject from two faculty members, then offers discussion questions, and options for further reading. I find the curriculum both accessible and flexible. We can do as much or as little as we like with each session. It's up to us to use it in a way that works for us.

To enroll please send me an email or call me, Roy McAlpine, at [email protected], or by phone at (860) 338-4525.

Prayer Requests

Although we are not physically in the church, we can continue to take prayer requests and put them in our Sunday leaflet. Please contact Barbara Roos at [email protected] with any names you would like added.

Transition to Eternal Life

With great sorrow Trinity Church announces the death of Brenda Stahley, mother of Pamela Haddad, who entered into rest June 19, 2020.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Brenda's family and all who knew and loved her, especially her daughter, Pamela Haddad. Together with them we mourn her death and give thanks for her life among us.

The memorial service will be private.

Father of all, we pray to you for Brenda, and for all those whom
we love but see no longer. Grant to them eternal rest. Let
light perpetual shine upon them. May her soul and the souls
of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
