Happy New Year!

As we embark on a new decade in this new year of 2020, we have much to look forward to as we engage our mission and values. At our annual meeting on Sunday, January 19th we will learn about all that has been accomplished in 2019 and the potential plans for what our various ministries have in store for 2020. We will focus on the campaign needed to replace the terrible stairs and put in the lift. We look forward to getting our nursery and Sunday school back in operation after the wonderful renovation of those downstairs rooms. With continued plans, the fellowship hall ceiling and lighting will be replaced and some needed attention given to our kitchen. As all of us who manage a home know, there are always upkeep and repairs that need to be addressed with any building as the years go on. The work accomplished in this last year are things that should not have to be redone in many decades to come.

Another key focus in 2020 will be to grow into our spirituality through the process of Renewal Works. Many of the articles that I have shared with you in our weekly newsletters have come from the author of "Monday Matters", Fr. Jay Sidebotham. Fr. Jay is also the promoter and coordinator of the Renewal Works program that is supported by the Forward Movement and the Episcopal Church Foundation.  This program begins with a parish survey that asks questions about the spiritual vitality of our parish, how we are spiritually fed, and how much more we can reach into our spiritual lives as a parish and personally. To get an insight to this program you are invited to experience a personal process that will provide you so valuable feedback:

Introducing RenewalWorks for Me
RenewalWorks For Me is a personal guide for the spiritual journey, providing coaching to help individuals grow. It begins with a brief online survey which assesses where you are in your spiritual life. We call it the Spiritual Life Inventory.   Once your responses have been processed, we'll email a helpful explanation of our findings, along with some tips for improving your spiritual journey. You'll also be given a chance to sign up for an eight-week series of emails that will offer some suggestions, coaching for how you can grow spiritually, and ways you can go deeper in love of God and neighbor.  Learn more at  renewalworks.org

As your rector, I continue to be challenged by how I can serve our parish as your spiritual leader, facilitator and pastor. My spirituality is excited when I experience it in fellowship with you. There is so much more to our spiritual experiences than happen at Eucharist on Sunday Morning. How we engage our inner spiritual drives and engage with others to share our questions, doubts and other varied experiences in our faith builds us all up to hear God. Please pray for spiritual direction and guidance. Please pray for my spiritual guidance and together let us find what more our faith has in store for our lives.

With best wishes and blessings for this new year and beyond,

Fr. David +

Most needed items this month include soup, deodorant, bar soap, disposable razors, adult diapers and seasonal clothing.  Monetary contributions are also gratefully accepted.

The Necessity Pantry is a joint outreach ministry of the Episcopal Churches in eastern Jackson County and is administered by St. Michael's in Independence.  Volunteers are always needed as well to help with this ministry.
