Prayer Request

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 am
Parish LifeThe Parish Life Committee, made up of representatives from all our parish ministries and programs, will meet tomorrow morning at 9:30 am to prepare the Church calendar for the second half of the 2018 year.  A representative from every ministry should attend.
The focus will be to identify and plan for new or upcoming events. It is extremely helpful for all groups to know what others are doing so future planning can take place without scheduling events at the same time.
Thanks to Elaine Gilligan, who keeps our church calendar up-to-date, Bill Carle, who manages parish events, and Diane Gerlach who maintains the service schedule throughout the year!
Recognition for Servant Leadership
and Parish Pentecost Ministries this Sunday
Pentecost Sunday - WEAR RED
Thank you to ALL who serve !
This Sunday we'll celebrate the birthday of the church on PENTECOST and we will also celebrate the gifts, talents and contributions made by all the people involved in the ministries of Resurrection.
From Acolytes to Outreach, Church of the Resurrection could not be what it is today without the commitment and hard work of all people that serve as Christ in community and in fellowship.
A gift of a plantable flower will be provided to all who serve in our church ministries. Flowers left over will be planted around the church in remembrance of all our ministries and those who serve in them.  Best wishes to all who have given from body, mind and spirit!
 Mr. John States
In addition to celebrating Pentecost, we will baptize John States, husband to Sarah and father to Madison, James and newly baptized George this Sunday, May 20 at the 10:30 service.
Please join all in welcoming John with a light reception after the 10:30 service. Many blessings to the States' family and the church!
In-gathering this Sunday
Needs for May include men's deodorant, disposable razors, Depends (sizes  L & XL), canned soup and summer clothing.  Monetary gifts of any amount are also gratefully accepted -- use the pew envelopes for your donation!
Process to select a new Church Organ
Work has begun to replace our tired and failing church organ!  Here is a brief synopsis of events that have occurred and are planned:

The Vestry approved defining a process to seek out a new organ at their May 9 meeting.
The Executive Committee (comprised of the Treasurer, Sr. Warden, Jr. Warden, recent past Sr. Warden and the Rector) met on May 16 to outline the process we will follow.

An Organ Committee was formed on May 17 comprised of Vaughn Scarcliff, Debbie Lynch, David Swant, Fr. Mark McGuire (Rector, St. Paul's-Lee's Summit) and Phil Clark for the purpose of researching organs and making a recommendation

Current and retired Sr. Wardens John Biggs and Bill Carle agreed to act as Project Managers to assure the selection process is followed and provide information to the congregation.

After a replacement organ is identified and the total cost is known, we will present a financial plan to the congregation with a clear goal for acquiring needed funds.

We will host a Sunday forum to be scheduled between services to provide the congregation information and answer questions.
The intent is to complete the entire process by July 1 so that information from the Organ Committee can be presented to the Vestry at the July 11 meeting. Following that meeting the procurement of a new instrument, removal of the existing organ and installation of the new one can commence so we will be ready for our fall program year in September.   MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW!
To Care for our Gardens
We would like to form a new ministry of "Gardening Angels", who can work together to help our parish gardens grow.
You may have noticed all the roses around the church have been removed (due to disease.)  We need to determine what to replace them with and establish a team of dedicated ministers to care for all the planting needs around the church. This  can be a wonderful and rewarding ministry!  Our "street-appeal" is important!
Please contact Gabe Conn or Fr. David if you are interested.
CPR/AED TRAINING    CPR and AED Training

Resurrection will offer a CPR/AED and "What to do before help arrives" class on June 2, 2018, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm in the Undercroft. Refreshments will be provided.   This training will fulfill all requirements for initial Heartsaver certification and Heartsaver renewal certification. A sign up sheet is in the Narthex.

Middle school age groups and above are welcome to sign-up. Cost for the course will be $50.00 which covers cost of books and certification with the American Hear Association. Class size will be limited to 16 participants. Even if you cannot kneel or get down on the floor to practice, you can learn from this class. The life you learn to save may be your own!
BOOK CLUB  Can_t Wait to Get to Heaven
Monday, June 4, 2018 at 7:00 pm
The Finding Faith Through Fiction Book Club will meet at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 4 in the undercroft.   This month's selection is  "Can't Wait to Get to Heaven"  by Fannie Flagg.
Combining southern warmth with unabashed emotion and side-splitting hilarity, Fannie Flagg takes readers back to Elmwood Springs, Missouri, where the most unlikely and surprising experiences of a high-spirited octogenarian inspire a town to ponder the age-old question: Why are we here?
Dawson (Slick) Heathman, husband of The Rev. Deacon Sharron Heathman of Christ Church Lexington, died early May 11 after a long illness. His funeral took place on May 14 in Lexington.

Yvonne Mullins passed away April 13.  A memorial service will be held tomorrow, May 19 at 10 am at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral with a reception immediately following in Spencer Hall.

Father of all, we pray to you for all those whom we love, but see no longer.  Grant to them eternal rest.  Let light perpetual shine upon them.  May the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.   Amen.
